im wondering if places like dell that sell laptops for students at colleges sell refurbished laptops? i ask because i have had my laptop for about 4 years now and its starting to go and the warranty is gone but even when i first got it i had nothing but problems with it, screws would come out on its own, every month or so i had to replace the keyboard or motherboard or something and was just wondering if anyone here have heard or know anything

I doubt an OEM that was a multinational would sink so low as to use REFURB parts in a new unit. I've heard stories of certain mfg's, who I will not name, using, for example, 'evaluation only' units, ie, CPU's, when repairing a customer's machine, but I would not think they'd build you a new unit with used parts on purpose.
That a refurb part could accidentally make it into a new product line is another matter. It's all speculation.
I will say I've been very disappointed with the units I and my family have purchased from the manufacturer you mention.

New? If you bought it new and you got a refurb, that's illegal. You can only legally be given a refurb if you are told it is refurm (buy) OR they can legally stick you with one when they repair your unit.
However, if you bought a brand new computer from them or a new HD and refurb was not mentioned, you have legal recourse.

Dell most certainly sell refurbished laptops from Dell Outlet
http://www.dell.com/outlet
If the model you require is not there, send them a mail and you will be notified when they have one

dell is one manufacturer i do not trust i am an amateur computer reair person with about 10 year of experience.
dell,hp and compaq are the 3 top computer i see that have had massive problems.
in which some googling will verify it more.
plus hp has bad support too.
the only answer you will get form them is you have to buy a new mother board.as a computer repairer that is not repairing.
thats the lazy way out of it.
