raid card question

I have a RocketRAID 2300 (not the best but works) PCI-E 4 Port sata card currently. It has 4 500GB Seagates on it (dont bash, they were cheap and I havent had a problem) in JBOD currently. I do not need them in any "raid" configuration for the time being as they are not nearly large enough for my storage needs.

My question is, if I move to another RAID card or possibly a mobo with enough Sata ports to satisfy me, can I just transfer over the JBOD array, or will I have to backup the data to another disk and then move it to the new array. Neither is a big deal, just wondering.

That would depends on the controller, but in general, no you cannot just unplug and plug. If you got another rocketraid it wouldn't surprise me if it worked that way.

i figured that much, some highpoints say they "now work with configurations from xxxx cards" so I assumed it would be brand by brand that it only worked
