I have 2 hard drives that are both less than a year old.
(sorry if its in the wrong section of the forum , as its a OS and a HDD question.)
a 500GB Seagate w/32mb cache @ 7200rpm
&
a 320GB Seagate w/16mb cache @ 7200rpm
Which drive would be better for my main OS install?

500GB drive would be better. It should be the faster drive with the denser platters, I don't believe that the 320GB would be a short-stroked 500GB.

What models are the HD's?

The 500 seagate with the 32 cache should be better since it should be a bit faster.

I suppose the 320GB could be the single platter 7200.12, which would be faster than the 500GB 7200.11. Assuimng those are the correct model numbers.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
the 320 was in an external drive and used maybe 2-3 months over the last year, the 500 has been used as a media storage drive since last fall, no longer needed now as i have two 1.5tb drives to replace it.
so both these drives have had very little use, which is why i figure either would be fine for a OS install. just wondered if there was a benefit to either. thanks guys :D

Go with the 7200.11.
