I finally figured out a way around the friggin' proxy I've been fighting at work so I can get the dual 1.7 Xeon (Fosters, no Prestonias yet) Folding.
Please tell me if there's an easier way, although this seems to be working pretty good.
I create 4 (up to 8) separate folding directories at home, start each one up until it starts cranking, then shut them down. I then FTP the folders to my free bellsouth web space. When I get to work I start 2 of 'em up (1 each cpu) and by the end of the work day, if the 2 are done I FTP the folders home, if they aren't I just let them finish up with 2 more running overnight, then all 4 are usually done by morning.
When I get home I download the 2 (or 4) that are done and start them up at home to let them upload results and download new WU's, FTP the folders and start the whole process again.
I really hate to see the that dual Xeon sitting idle all night and half the day (I'm still spending more time on my RS6000 at work), and had NO luck finding a way around the stranglehold of our corporate proxy.
I was also wondering if what I'm doing is defeating the purpose in any way. Am I duplicating too much work by running so many different instances(up to 8)? Am I just padding numbers?
Anyway, sorry for the long post, I was just looking for some input from the people that are in the know.;) ;)
