FYI guys, if you intend on playing Champions...get patching now. It's a huge 3.6 gig patch and it will take a good chunk of the day as the data is flowing sorta slow atm. Logmein to your home computers, and get that bad boy patchin while you faint work for the rest of the day ;)

Update....SOOOOOOOO SLOW!!!! Dang this is the slowest patch ever.

It's a beta, but still. Look around for the info on moving some files around to reduce the 3.6 gig DL to only 952 megs. Still a lot thou....

1)Install the client.
2)Run the patcher once.
3)Navigate to Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Live/Prepatch/piggs and delete all *.hoggs files you find there.
4)Navigate to Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Live
5)Cut and paste all 2.02 GB of *.hogg files from Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Live to Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Champions Online/Live/Piggs, overwriting the files therein.
6)Restart the patcher.
7)If patch stalls during download, give it a chance to resume. If it does seem stuck, press the X button on the patcher and restart it.

If you do it this way and replace the files in there (a bunch of 65k files) you will not have to download a 3.6 GB patch but a 952 MB patch!

When the patcher freezes downloading as noted by DarkFaceCrusher let it "cook" there for a min and it should download another chunk. If nothing seems to move just press the X on the patcher and restart it. You will continue downloading from where you left off (NOTICE THE TOTAL FILE SIZE IS REDUCUED BY WHAT YOU DOWNLOADED NOT THE % BE SAME

Hope this helps

Bah, I knew I should have stayed up the extra 5 minutes this morning to install and register this thing, let it patch while I slept. But NOOOO, I said, I'm tired, I'll install this afternoon, and let it patch during an outting with my friends. Guess who just cancelled, and now the servers are down and I can't patch.

I just got done playing for a bit and thought it was pretty cool. I definitely like the character customization.... Its awesome how many things you can actually do.

Been playing the beta. Very fun, character customization is great, but the game is very far from finished.

hmmm... $200 for a lifetime... hmmm... you know, if I wasn't shipping out shortly that would sound appealing.

I tend to agree... but the question is... do I really want to shell out $200 for a game that may or may not be worth it...
I want to know if its actually different from other games. If not whats its closest equivelent

Not a big deal. I registered for free with file planet, registered for beta on the champions site, got a beta key then downloaded the client. Took a little over an hour for the whole thing today. Didnt cost anything.

Weird, when I got my FP key it required you to buy one of the premium memberships, like $5 a month.

I've been playing this throughout the week and say this is City of Heroes with many more options I think. Building your character has so many different options its sick. I would spend $200 on a lifetime membership if I had it just because I played CoH. If CoH wasn't your game chances are this one isn't because they are very similar I think.....

the core mechanics are very different though. gameplay is similar, but, like I said, core mechanics are very different.
