I just bought a new computer and I am having issues with it not reading all the memory. I have (3x2gb) OCZ Platinum. My bios is only reading two gigs out of the total 6. My timings are set to auto and the default 7-7-7-20. I set the DRAM Bus to 1.6v and the DRAM Frequency to 1600, but still no luck. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I have checked each DIMM in the one slot that works and they all work. I have two DIMM slots that are not reading the memory. I talked to ASUS and they said that the issue is with my CPU and to get the i7 920 DO version. Talking to newegg, they said if I RMA the cpu they will not garuntee that I will get the DO version. I talked to Intel and they said that the default 1.9v on these DIMMs are too high for the cpu and I need DIMMs that run 1.6v or less. They too will not let me RMA for a DO version of the i7 920. What is the DO version

Any help would be much appreciated, I am very new to the BIOS and setting up computers, so if you could explain things more step by step, that would be awesome. Thank you!

You have the modules installed to DIMM's A1, B1, and C1?

w00ps never mind didn't read your post.

Yes, I do have them in A1 B1 C1. A1 works, B1 and C1 are not reading the memory.

Does either CPU-Z or Task Manager see all 6 GB of RAM?

If the memory was running at 1.9 and the QPI/VDIMM voltage was less than 1.4 at the time, you could have fried the memory controller on the CPU. You are safe if they are within .5 of each other, but could be instant death the minute you apply power if they are not.

That memory is rated at 1.65v, so unless you changed it to 1.9, it shouldn't have run that high.

The D0 version is just a newer revision. It is known to overclock a little better with less voltage but run hotter than the C0. That should really have nothing to do with not seeing the full amount of memory. If C0's couldn't see 6gb of RAM, Intel would have a recall on their hands.

It shows 2gb in the task manager. If I put the memory in the A1 and A2 slots the task manager and BIOS sees 4gb. But anymore it will not read, no matter what the combination.

This is the memory that I got.

Should I RMA the memory, the cpu, or the motherboard? If I RMA the memory, I am going to buy a different brand. I have done research and it seems like two things.. the memory combination with the ASUS or the ASUS most likely has two dead slots.

I'd be a little leery of starting that thing up with 1.9 volts on the RAM out of the box myself, not sure what could have happened to the CPU there myself.

I'm new to I7's myself but that might not bode well.

The frigging asus bios actually tried to set mine that high the first time I tried it on DOCP, but I'm sure it adjusted a few other settings also at the time, I was watching what happened before I fired it up and adjusted some things and not using it anymore, just because I've tweaked a little I guess at any rate.

If the MOBO did something similar and you changed a few things too after that then could have fried something maybe.

Check the pins on the ram. I had one strip on me somehow.

As long as his CPU QPI voltage is 1.4 or better than he is not out of tolerance for the memory controller. DRAM Voltage must be .5 Point 5 of the CPU/QPI voltage I keep CPU and QPI at same voltage I am running my DRAM at 1.7 as my CPU/QPI Voltage is 1.26250 running at 20*20 for GHz

I have a feeling that he wasn't at 1.4. If QPI was at default 1.2 and DRAM was at 1.9...goodbye CPU. I always set vcore and QPI the same.

are you running a 32 bit OS? 32bit os can only see a max of 4 gig. Might do you good to get a 64bit linux live cd like ubuntu and boot off the cd drive and see if it can see all 6 gig of ram.
