Hey i was wondering if anybody knows 100% of the ICH9 vanilla not ich9r chipset supports hot plugging sata drives? Im trying to get more storage on my server but i dont want a all the hard drives on all the time so i was finiguring i could just hot plug em. but dont know if the ICH9 supports it.

If your OS natively supports AHCI and you configure your SATA connectors for AHCI mode in the BIOS, then hot-swapping should work. That's my understanding of it anyways, but I wouldn't say I'm 100% sure though.

must use real sata power cables as well. Running sata connectors off of 4 wire connectors negates hot swap-ability IIRC

OK ill hook a monitor and KB up to the server and take a look in the bios when i get home to see if i can change to AHCI mode.... i think that might require a reinstall of the OS however.

I hot plug sata drives all the time using a 4pin molex to sata power without any problems.

EDIT... did some research, mobo manual says that the ECS G33T-M2 does not support hot plugging... o well ill just pop in my pci silicon image sata controller.
