Beware DLP's, they look nice but sometimes the upkeep (buying lamps, etc) just end up not being worth it.
I own a 60 inch Mitsubishi DLP and it failed on me after only 3 months of use, and apparently repair costs are 300+ (only paid 1000 for the unit.)

Buyer beware, I bought a 61" DLP off woot for a undesclosed amount...50% off retail price. Felt good, looked good but after a little ovver one year -bling- the lights go out! I google the lamp part # and it is $500 to replace. Ahem...my buddy and me took 2 AK-47's and the DLP out to a gravel pit and blew it apart~! Mmmm, sucked but was very fun~~~~~~~>
Bought a 52" Philips W/Pixel Perfect at CostCo for about the same price a couple years ago and have never looked back. I love my Big Screen LCD and will never look back.
Beware the DLP....

Yeah, sorry I didn't respond sooner, but even though mine is still under warranty the thing about DLP's is the upkeep it will end up being the same as how much you paid for the initial TV at the end of a years time. I've since bought 2 Samsund LCD tv's and haven't looked back as well. =D
I'd go projection if I needed 70"+.

I've had a 51" Samsung DLP for about 2.5 years, and I've yet to replace the bulb. However, I looked into bulb replacement cost and it's less than $150 shipped. The cost of an LCD or plasma of that size (at the time) would have FAR surpassed my DLP and several bulb replacements. The claim about the upkeep of a DLP being the same as the initial cost of the TV after 1 year is greatly exaggerated.

3d is the major selling point for me. Can't do that on an LCD (at >22" and 1080p) or plasma yet.

On my dlp I had to replace the bulb once after about a year, but then 1.5 years later it had black vertical lines everywhere. Cleaning the dust inside helped a little bit but then it came back :(
Im VERY happy with my samsung 56" DLP 1080p TV. I purchased it almost a year ago for $1200. GREAT purchase IMO. I wouldnt hesitate on a DLP if you are looking to save a few hundred.

3d vision... umm dont you still need a good 1k's worth of software and stupid gogles to make 3d work.... and even then its only in a VERY select few games?
as far as DLP vs LCD... i got a 62inch mitsubichi DLP downstairs and a 52in samsung lcd upstairs... much prefer the LCD but the DLP is nice, had it for 3 yrs now and the bulb has never gone out.
And for a 73inch screen your looking at an optimal viewing distance of 18.25 ft back (3x the diagonal).
What's the difference between this and the wd7373 that was last years model?
What's the difference between this and the wd8373 that is the most recent model?

I've got a 42" Sony DLP that I bought almost 4 years ago that was 2100.00, A 42" plasma was 4000+. How prices have changed in 4 years.
Ok, I can't find the difference between the WD-7373 and the WD-73C9. I just looked at theh spec on the mitsubishi web site. They're identical except for one line which contained a very forgettable word that mitsubishi made up themselves.

1. 3d Vision is $200 brand spankin' new, and works with the vast majority of games released in the past few years. $200 is the price of the goggles and transmitter. No extra software or whatever to buy.
2. The old "3x the diagonal" thing hasn't been true since HDTVs came out. Go check out the chart at the top of http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/12/09/1080p-charted-viewing-distance-to-screen-size/
As you can see, at 18 feet, you can barely tell 480p from 720p on a 73" screen. The actual sweet spot for 73" is between ~10-13 feet or so.

well guess i was misinformed.
the whole 3dvision IMO is a joke, never looked good really. 200 bucks isnt bad tho.
And 10 ft back for a 73incher man that would be too close for me lol.

In the right games, 3d Vision looks amazing. The 120hz LCD was awesome too, even in non-3d use, until I broke the stupid thing. Takes some getting used to, going back to a regular 60hz panel :(

i gots a question tho. theres no WAY to fit 1920x1080@ 120hz over a single link dvi cable (i think the samsung 22inch 120hz 1680x1050 uses a dual link connection right ratbuddy?), so how on earth do you play a 1080p 120hz source to a tv with HDMI ports (single link dvi) use two HDMI cables? (given that gfx cards are not specd for hdmi 1.3 stuff which has twice the bandwidth over the same single link connection)
that is unless the tv has a HDMI type B connector which is essientally the same as a dual link dvi connection... but i highly doubt that as hdmi type b connector hasnt been used in anything production.

DLP 3d doesn't use a 120hz scheme, it somehow tiles the images. I'm not sure exactly how it works. Yes, the 1680x1050 22" uses a dual link DVI cable.

Have a previous model of this tv (73 Mitsubishi DLP). Have had it for over 1.5 years, never any issues, great television. I would research the bulb price replacement costs first for anyone worrying about it. Just because one television cost 500 for bulb replacement, doesn't mean another will (have seen them as cheap as 100 bucks for some DLP's).
Limited warranty 12 months for parts and 12 months for labor comes with this unit.
For an extra 230, you can get an extra 2 years extended warranty through Tiger Direct, starts once the Mfg warranty ends.

For the most part, stores are too brightly lit for a rear projection TV to really look it's best.

I've had my 56" Samsung DLP for a year and a half and haven't needed to replace anything yet. I use the TV heavily for computer, ps3, xbox, movies, tv watching, etc. I was worried at first that a replacement bulb would cost ~$500 based on what I had read from reviewers and such, as well as people saying the bulb would burn out within months. I've found places online that sell replacement bulbs for between $100-$200 shipped for my TV. That's a pretty reasonable price for a DLP bulb. Only issue I have with my TV is a slight bowing in the lower left corner, and that is only noticeable when I'm using the computer.

Care to elaborate? How do they look nasty? I personally feel the image quality of my DLP surpasses that of many of my friends' LCD TVs, the colors look more vibrant for one.

I have had my 50" Toshiba DLP for almost 2 years now and all is well. I set my lamp power to low when I set the TV up and have left it that way. Replacement bulbs for my model are currently approx $200, So if the bulb does blow I can handle the cost of the bulb.
As far as the picture quality, I actually really like the DLP, We have a 32" LCD in the bedroom and I think the DLP is easily on par with the LCD.

that is because the DLP televisions in the stores are not set to the high resolutions
they are set to the lowest resolutions ( that is why the picture looks crappy )
i actually had to show a bestbuy sales person how to UP the resolution
( his statement was : now i am going to buy this television )
he is a HALO series fanatic too
( it was the top of the line samsung LED DLP television 47 inches of awesome

also i dunno if this applies to all DLP's but i know the mitsubichi dlp i have down stairs has SO MUCH input lag its not even funny... so much that you move the mouse stop when you see that the cursor is on the icon, and the mouse keeps going because you actually stopped too late and the video was behind mouse movements.

I just re-checked to make sure the link in the OP is still good, and it's actually come down in price by $25
If I could afford the divorce lawyer accessory, I'd order one of those TVs today :p

82in 1080p rez is pointless IMO... thats such low pixel density! i can see the individual pixels on my 52in 1080p sammy from 12 ft back.

82" 1080p is perfect from about 11' on up.
