i am going to build a rig for my friend, and i have the choice between those two processors, which one should i use? i don't care about the performance, for both are pretty equal. guess my real question would be, "is it safe for me to build a t-bird system when it can be so easily vanished if you been careless for about 7 seconds?" According AMD official saying, "if a t-bird 1ghz is left without any cooling for that short of period, it is all over," and that makes me worry. In a household where dogs and young child are infested, i do worry if they by accident, pump off the hsf off, then...
i am not here to laugh how fragile a t-bird can be, i am just asking questions, for the hsf is not that easily be knock off. Anyway, since my friend knows NOTHING about computer, if anything ever goes wrong, i will be charged with the crime:(simply put, are you guys confident enough to build such a rig for your computer-idiot friend? oh yeah, he is case is opened always, which makes the situation worsen.
P.S. i will post the same article on AMD cpu section, so if you guys are interested, take a look how they respond.

Is the choice between an AMD 1000 at default and an Intel 750@1000?

I replied to your other thread... http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61606

Don't fear it coming off...

BTW, please don't double post, it confuses me, and is frowned upon in this Forum.

thanks,

to rainmaQer and flounder:
yes, your 750 at 1ghz and to blue, yes it is your t-bird

to flounder, i only do this just to see how both side justifying or reasoning on such an interesting topic, and just looking carefully, they are not the same:) can you spot it?:D

I'd go with the AMD as it is already at 1000... the 750 will be overclocked... as a personal rule I never give an overclocked system to someone else... especially if I can do that speed default;)

it does not really matter, for i will do some serious testing b4 ship it out, and i will envlope the PIII with P3125, so there is no chance of fan failing (dual fan system) or overheat:D and it is impossible of hsf falling, for it is tighly SCREWED with the PIII itself.

Hmm the Tbird 1 gig would be my choice.

Have you seem to overclocked? TranceBear gets them to 1.6gig!

What power and utilizing DDR.

My two cents man but the P3 isn't a bad choice either.

The Intel will fry without cooling too, it might take more than 7 seconds, but it will fry too.

I'd go with the T-bird and not overclock it if you dont wanna be responsible for maintainance

thanks pp,
i know a PIII will be burning in flame if the hsf ever fall off, but the point is, i got different hsf for them, one is actually screwed with the cpu itself, so if the hsf falls off, it is GOD's welling; on the other hand, the hsf that will be on top of the AMD is not so "bullet proof," in comparsion. anyway,i certainly see alot of people favoring AMD, for it is not oced right? i will take that into consideration.

if both CPU's were 1 Ghz and running at stock speed then I would say take your pick b/c you will get about the same performance from both CPU's

Overclocking is fun and I dont mind fixing my own comp b/c of overclocking but I would never OC somebody elses comp unless I knew it was a 100% stable OC

Well typically if your running AMD @ stock w/ a change of the retail hsf and change the thermal pad to something like Arctic Silver it should be more than good and from there you shouldn't experince no heat problems. AMD Tbird does have some what an advantage compared to a P3 becuz it does utilize DDR and such.

Best of luck.

i have decided to go with Intel for serveral good reasons, 1) it is less trouble, for my friend got a BX board, and i am sure it will oc alright. 2) the dude is a total computer idiot, so i would like to get him something that is more smooth and problem free. 3) his main use is surfing and checking mails, it does not matter i give him a pentium 500 or xp 2000..i mean, performance is not on the list. and 4) he wants an intel, why? because those blue alliens have done their job well:rolleyes:
