What do you guys think is the fastest/best fan out there?

I have done a little research in the last month and I think that for case fans(80mm) "Sunon" is a good one at 4500 rpm,
and on my cpu I like my 7000 rpm "Delta".

panflo's are known for quietness at same cfm as other fans

Delta are good fans if you don't care about the noise.

Sounds good. I really don't care about the noise factor. Just looking for the best. Thanks guys for all of your help.

I've got the black label delta (7000rpm). Doesn't seem "that loud". Maybe a smidge louder than my volcano ii fan. It's all good :burn:

I agree that the Sunon and Panaflos are great. Quieter than the 80mm Deltas and even the Sanyo Denkis.

The best fan for what? Heat sink? Case cooling? Hard drive cooling? And what is your criteria for best?

If maximum cooling is your ONLY criteria, rigging up a really big fan can give some amazing results. I pulled the fans completely off the heat sinks on my dualie system and am now using a 6.75" 235cfm fan that blows on the heat sinks from a couple inches away. It provides clearly better temps than any 60mm heat sink fan could ever do, so I guess it's the best. Of course, if you're concerned with case aesthetics or the noise level, this wouldn't be a good choice.

If you are concerned with noise level get two extra case fans

At one point I didn't care about noise... Then I bought a Delta 68 CFM 80mm. That bad boy has enough torque to twist the chassis of my case. After one day of thinking I lived on a carrier deck I had a new opinion on noise. I say use the best HS available, and only get as much fan as you need.

I'm using Swiftech heatsink with Delta 500rpm fan, and guess what? .. I'm getting 31c on my 2.2Ghz Northy.. This heatsink really does the job with a nice CFM .. (68cfm)

So what are your temps at full load ?

I am at 39c and 37c after an allnighter of burning in .

33.5c is the highest I got with full load overclocked to 2.7Ghz so far..

Good temps but expected for an intell.Post some bench marks for us and link us to them.

I was asking the dual processor guy what his temps are and what his system is.

I'll be running the Koolance chase with a XP1900. I know it has an extra fan spot in the back, but don't know what size. If anybody has a clue please let me know. I'm just starting an a overclocker so I really appreciate all of your help. The Koolance chase has a PlexiGlass cover, is there any easy way to cut a whole in that for another fan. Also what experience do you guys have with Power Supplies. Whats the best setup for that?

Get a PSU by Antec or Enermax. All your other questions I cannot answer .:(

I was asking the dual processor guy what his temps are and what his system is. The system is an Abit BP6 with two Celeron 366s O/C to 550. The system is always running two instances of SETI so both processors are running 100% all the time. I have the fan wired through a big rheostat and normally run it at less than half speed. With it set up like this it runs about 8C over ambient. If I turn the fan up all the way I can get it down to about 5C over ambient. The CPUs are always within 1C of each other.

With the 60mm heatsink fans the CPUs were always 5C apart. I have Alpha heatsinks and found the pair worked best if one was sucking, like Alpha recommends, and the other was blowing. If I had them both going the same way the air flow patterns apparently interfered with each other and one CPU would always run 8 or 9 degrees hotter than the other.

I know this system does not present the same cooling challenges some of the rest of you face, but the difference between the individual heatsink fans and the one big fan should still be valid. I should add that I accidently disconnected the big fan when I was making some hardware changes and the machine froze about 10 seconds after I got into Windows. On reboot I couldn't get past POST. When I figured out what happened I touched the heatsinks and, well, let's just say cooking eggs came to mind. One thing's for sure, the time I spent lapping the CPUs and heatsinks was not wasted. The system booted fine once I reconnected the fan.

...cheap toy..:-) - How easy was installation on your Asus, I did read you have to make holes on the board (to holt the 600(!)g weight?...) so: how was installation? Do you think it works on my mobo (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/8irxp.htm) too?

A cheaper alternative is maybe
http://www.thermaltake.com/VOLCANO478.htm
Price / performance ratio not bad.
But is this better cooling/worth to buy instead the IHS P4Northwood? Anyone experience? Otherwise it makes no sense. (I not understand anything of the specs. on those webpages, i'm software developer not hw-specialist..:-)

Cheers all, good night max

If it`s for a H.S. then I'd say the 80mm 80c.f.m. Delta. For case cooling I'd say the 172mm 235c.f.m. Comair.

No holes to be done, just remove your retail black heatsink/fan holder on your board, and screw/mount your swiftech heatsink, took me like 10mins to get everything put together.. You shouldn't have any probs doing it :) ..
