View Full Version : Poor fraps performance, Soft Raid slowing me down?

Can't figure this one out.

I used to game a lot. I used fraps to record my games on XP, P4 2.8Ghz, 2gb RAM, 9800PRO, 7200 Maxtor HDD.

I have started gaming again on a Windows 7(Full) Core2Duo 2.13Ghz, x1950PRO (DNA drivers), Intel RAID-1 2x 500GB.

Old system recorded very smooth video on demanding games back then.

New system, 5 fps gameplay, Playing a old Game called Viper Racing. No matter if I reduce the resolution (640x480!) and half the recording screen size!

This is a read test.

Write test won't work due to paritions/Raid.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Viper Racing is known to glitch with NT-based Windows versions.
(Thus, may include Windows Vista and Windows 7)

It seems Microsoft broke something with DirectX, starting with Windows XP (and probably Windows 2000) (or the audio rendering being used)

In the past, when I ran Viper Racing, at least on Windows XP, (and probably Windows 2000) the audio crackled. Also, the video may stutter. (not quite as likely)

Indeed, you're right with the audio, well remembered, it does crackle. I replaced the audio with a new sound pack and seems better. I get high frame rate in the game without fraps.

Installing a middle demanding game to try. A hunch, with your comments it could be the game itself causing the frame rate difficulty.

It's the game itself. Installed another game, recorded 1280x1024 @ 30fps no problem. Viper Racing/DirectX + fraps = issues
