View Full Version : Nomad Jukebox
Hey there everyone,
I've recently decided that it is time that I should modify my Nomad Jukebox 6 gig (after owning it for almost a year now). I'm not interested in the hard drive upgrade... that's easy enough for any newbie to do. I want to do some extreame modding with this and have some fun. I've added a spare bat. pack to it... so I now have 8 bats. in at all times instead of the conventional 4. But that's all I've done. Any ideas, sugestions, or mad hatter schemes are welcome to apply to my challenge.
The Challenge....
Help me trick out my Jukebox Explicitly to the X-STREAM!
As soon as mods are completed I will post pics... But I need help and ideas... and probably a little info on some of the stuff you guys come up with cuz I'm sort of new to this... but I do know sort of how things work. And oh.... I'm not afraid to take this puppy apart to do this.
Talk to you all soon.
Sincerely,
The mad Hatter- Loopin

I'd start out with some appearance mods. Give it a decent paint job, maybe etch a couple things in to the case, then you'll definitely have the nicest looking nomad out there.
Another thing you could do is look for a Lithium Battery that has the same voltage specs as your 8-pack. I'm sure you could get the size of the batteries down(and still have the same performance) if you did that.

Well, you could do something like put it in an acrylic case and stick a few LEDs on there...
and can you post how you did the battery thing?
hmmm.... I don't really know about how to get acylic cases and all.... but it sounds interesting. I'm sort of looking to make the case a bit larger so as to be able to accomadate my extra batteries.
Also, The battery add on is one of the simplest things I've ever done. All you have to do is go to Radio shanty and pick up a battery holder/case... they are black and all you have to do is put the bats. in the case and then either bare a bit of the wiring that comes out of it and attach it to your jukeboxes springs (the ones on the left when you hold the jukebox in the upright possision). That's it. You will then have twice the bat power on your jukebox.

Do you use the rechargeable ones or just regular 1.5V batteries?

I used the bats. that came with the jukebox... the rechargeables. Plus... the bat. indicator on the jukebox itself still stays true to how much battery power is left because you draw equal power from all batteries all the time, so if you switch the pack off then the bat. indicator doesn't go funky on you.

Well, I got a whole ton of plexi coming in tomorrow and the radio snack in my area seems to be running some sort of drug ring in the back because they got absolutely nothing for supplies. I went in the other day to look at buying a step down converter and a power transformer for some other projects of mine and they don't carry any... not only that, but they don't even have the parts necessary to even build my own. Then they wanted to charge me shipping and handling on the order of the parts, so I told them where they could go and I left. Looks like I have to go to Vancouver to buy my junk now.
Anyway... Does anyone here know what I have to do to make plexi glass mouldable. I want to make it curve and make it look nice and clean. if I can't figure that out then I have a couple of back up designs for it, but they are more like boxes then anything else... a little help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You mean someone else in this world actually bought an MD player w00t, and I thought I was the only one who did. Any how if you heat the plexi up just right it should bend, but be careful to not burn it or anything, blackened plexi wouldnt look too good.

Lots of people have MD players...just not in the US! They're more common than both CD players and MP3 players in Asia :p

What should I use to heat the plexi up? I was thinking if I get a thick metal rod and used a low heat on it to slowly heat the rod, then it could heat the plexi without burning it. Any other suggestions are welcome though.

I'm actually not sure what you should use. The ideal situation would be head it in an oven then then bend it while inside the oven, but I'm assuming you dont have tose kind of resources. Maybe if you heat it in the oven then pull it out and bend it that might work.
