Ok i've seen all the ppl say how good XP is and what have you. I've used WIN ME for over 1.5 years wit out a hitch. Now i hear there are some software incompatabilities with XP. I use AUTO CAD and do some gaming. Should i go to XP from ME and if i do how much software do u think i will need to purchase to be compatable.

I switched from 98SE to XP without a hitch. The only thing that doesn't work is Interstate '82. Not that I care, but I tried every program I had laying around to test compatibility.

Contrary to some people's experiences, I had no problems swapping over to XP. I have done upgrades and fresh installs to many systems already and have found it runs better and faster than any other Microsoft OS I have used. But your mileage may vary.

The only software I had problems with was Norton antivirus version 2001, I had to buy the 2002 version to work with XP and it doesnt even work right :o . I used Windows "ME" without a hitch too, I don't know why people complained about it, I think most people never even gave it a chance. I also had problems with a memory card reader, but I installed the Win 2000 drivers just to see if it would work and it did. XP is good and all, but I think its over-hyped too, just my opinion.

I'm sure there is going to be software that will not work well or at all for that matter in XP, however your bigger problem would be running it on the system in your sig. XP is a huge resource hog and the k6 2 chips without any on die cache and typical slow memory performance are not the best candidates for XP. I know I own one, however I'm running a k6 3+ 450 @ 550 and it's still a bit lacking.
I would stick with ME or 98.
However you may be able to get a decent speed boost out of that system if it will take a + chip. k6 2+ 450 at tiger direct for under 40 bucks. (the reason I'm not recommending a 3+ is that they are NOW rare and expensive)
You may want to head over to amdzone.com and check out the k6 section of the users forum there for more info.
