The questions are regarding my drives listed in my sig.

They are 1.5gb interface drives, not the new 3gb ones.

If I put 3 together, do you think the performance is equivalent to a newer 3gb drive?

My second question is:

Can 1.5gb/s drives be bottlenecked by 3gb/s SATA cables. I know it sounds stupid but I have a story:

I used to run 2 of these drives together on the ICH6R Southbridge. Since it didn't support 3 drives in RAID. I could get around 110mb/s average on HDtune.

Since I got my new P55, I immediately hopped onto 3 drive RAID 0. The first thing I did was install HDtune to see the significance of the performance increase.
To my surprise, i was getting 40mb/s average.
:bang head

I didn't understand this. A 3 drive RAID 0 configuration should have a little performance boost to a 2 drive RAID 0 config.

I've been thinking and I've eliminated the problem being the motherboard. The last thing I can think of is the SATA cables. I used the 3gb/s ones out of the box. The only thing that is a little funny is that Gigabyte gave me 4 SATA cables, the weird thing is, 2 of them have a sort of a hook to them and 2 of them are just normal. Here is a picture:

Do you think this affects anything?

Thanks in advance

Unless you have bad cables, they shouldn't have any effect.

How do they bench individually?

What do you mean individually?

Using the same cables, have you tried running HDTune on the drives with the new motherboard?

There's a serious issue here, as one drive itself should average mid-50MB/s by itself. You'll have to break the array and then test each individually to at least make sure all drives function properly by themselves and then go from there. Cables have no effect unless they are bad and I can't say I've seen 3Gb/s spec'd cables, a SATA cable is a SATA cable, the rest is marketing.

Damn, that sucks....

Alright then, is it possible to test individual drives without breaking the array?

Alright, I did a series of tests.

I got disk A and Disk B together and i get around 70mb average.
Then I get Disk B and Disk C together and I get around the same.

But when I go 3 disk RAID. My hdtune graph looks like a cubic curve. It has highs for 10 seconds, then lows for 10 seconds. Is this normal?
