1TB Hitachi 16mb 7200rpm SATA II for $64 afte MIR.
I currently have a 250GB Hitachi drive and it has surived me well with no problems.
Should I get this or the WD Black 640GB for $74?
I'd say no, but only because i'm Seagate fan and friend of mine has got some problems with WD disc.
As its one of the faster mechanical drives on the market I'd say grab the Caviar Black. Or look at the Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB.
With Seagate IMO it's more of half/half with quality control.
As you can see in my sig, I run both the Caviar Black 640GB and 500GB. Both run extremely well and fast. Looking at getting a Black 1TB.

I was looking at them, But the price just got me attention. $64 for 1TB compared ti $74 for 640gb? BTW this wouldn't be my main drive, Just a Secondary Drive. I plan on Replacing the 160Gb Wd with the WD 640Gb Black.
Oh well honestly just as a secondary drive, grab the 1TB Hitachi you are already looking at.

I read that quite a few people got DOA or early death from Newegg with Hitachi 1TB or early death. Most suspect this is due to Newegg handling of harddisk and Hitachi's packaging materials. Always have a backup. You are all set. Otherwise, I am using 2 640GB Hitachi drive for RAID0. I have been quite happy with it.
Since its a secondary drive though you can also take a look at the Caviar Green series.

I have 3 WD in my system and love them. They work great. I do have a 500 GB external Seagate. My Seagate does its job for me.
I say WD Caviar Black.
