I just picked up an XP 1900+ to replace one of my 1.4 T-Birds.

This is my first XP....and the board it went into is an Epox 8KHA+

In the BIOS there is a line that says something like "Identify MP bit if available"...
If I turn it to enabled
The Boot screen shows an MP processor!
Windows XP also says that it's an MP...
And Sandra Pro says "Yup..It's an MP!!"

Anyone else ever see this...???

Could I have gotten an improperly packaged MP...
(It was an OEM...sealed in a Pink plastic bag)

If I turn the option to see the MP bit off in the bios...everything agrees it's an XP.

If it is actually an MP...which would be the better way to run the processor??
As an MP or an XP??

Also...wcpuid says that SSE is enabled...will I Still need to re-load Windows XP to take full advantage if the SSE instructions??

I did a "Windows Update" and it found a new driver at microsoft for the Athlon processor.

I let it install ..did that take care of the entire SSE issue ??

I unlocked the CPU as soon as I got home....
I've been burning it in at 1775 MHZ....
I intend to try for 1800...it wouldn't work before...but after a burn in it may be more agreeable..

At 1775 1.85 vcore the cpu doesn't get over 38"c....
It is SOOOOO MUCH COOLER THAN THE T-BRID IT REPLACED!!!

I'm now getting a Seti W/U done in @ 2.75 Hours!!!

Thanks to all that respond!!

Wow! I don't have an Epox board so I don't know what that BIOS setting does, but I doubt that running it either as an XP or MP will make a difference; they're both the same inside.....so far.

Look what the chip says it should be on the die as an XP or MP. Then you will know for sure.

I also have an Epox 8KHA+ with an XP on it, in my case it's an XP1600+.

I'm sure that I have an XP. I just checked the BIOS and found that setting you refer to and I'm not sure what it does. However, when I enable it my CPU is also recognized as an "MP".

From what I understand, the MP's are the same chips without the bridges cut. I'm going to do some research on that setting. I was under the impression that the MP's supported multiple proccesors whereas the XPs don't (officially).

According to the usually reliable sources, the MP's come "factory unlocked"

Good Luck!

yeah, like Frank said, if you truly had an MP it would be factory unlocked. So, are the bridges cut or not? If they are it is an XP.

If you have not unlocked your CPU, try enabling the MP bit, then try adjusting your multiplier. I am 99.99% sure it won't do anything, but it would be neato if by enabling the MP bit you could adjust the multiplier w/o unlocking.
