Strange core damage

Has anyone ever had the core surface (colored part) appear to chip away the corners are still perfect but the top surface has some strange damage. There is a small little etching in the right hand corner of the chip and right on the edge is where the chip has happened I removed the hsf again this morning to find some extra small chips on the edges of the stepping letters and numbers too. The first time I saw the damage I thought it was some AS2 I had somehow missed when I claened the chip but when I got close well...

The chip lost 3% off its overclock at this voltage and its running like 3c hotter. Anyone had a similar problem or a possible fix?
