anyone every had a day where u just wanna smash your cable modem to peices but just before you do it, it works fine again? :D
I had a whole week of that once. A power cable came down on the cable line and blew my modem. It was downloading great for x amount of seconds, then die, for a whole week.

I wouldn't know that problem because i don't have cable. I am interested though in getting. Could you tell me around how much you are paying a month for it and with who. If you have any links, please send me them.

Cable modems are touchy little guys... If I'm idle too long the modem gets all retarded, I have to unplug it and plug it back in to make it work.
I am only paying $20 a month for it though... Too bad it goes up to $40 after 6 months.
Cable is so much better than any other option in my area, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

i dont even have to do anything for my cable modem to stop working for a week. then i go through all the computers reset all the settings and try to get it all working in a panic like 3 times a day. i hate it and i love it. couldnt live without it.

ATT Broadband was great... Then CableOne bought out my area... They raised the prices, and now the service sucks. Kind of Lame. Then I moved, Now I use Adelphia Powerlink. It's alright, but no support for multilple IP's. That's OK, we cheated and got both PCs hooked up anyway.:D

Mine gets like that at times, mostly around 1AM-3AM. The line never idles, always doing something, as long as my PC is on. It will just start acting up, I'll go back there, to see the Cable light is on solid, so I go back to my room to find it still dysfunctional. I'll release and refresh the IP, even though it always resolves the router, just to see if it helps, nope.
I usually have to wait it out, about 30 minutes before things go back to normal.
Paying $40 a month right now for 4mbit cable, they've got 10mbit out for the same price.

During high traffic times, I'll be playing CS and then all of a sudden, I won't be! DAMNIT!!! Happens on fridays afterschool and weekends at noon. I hate it. I used to have DSL, and it never went out. Ever. But this cable gets rather laggy at times and it goes out for short periods when you're gonna use it. If they only had DSL in this area...
www.dslreports.com is a great page for reviews, speed tests, etc for all broadband connections
Click on DSLRTools then go to Speed tests to test your connection speed.
From my test ** Speed 1186(down)/215(up) kbps **
I have Bellsouth DSL and I'm about 2 blocks from my CO

i hate the days when, it takes like 5 mins to load a page, but if i download something, it is screaming fast.
***Speed 1453(down)/343(up) kbps***
at least 29 times faster than a 56k modem.

Fiber optic line capable of 155Mbps X 2.
One probably for upstream and one for downstream.

There are several companies that will waive the installation fee, why?
Because an OC-3 is $40,000 for one month.
OC-12 (622 Mbps) is $175,000
OC-48 (2,488 Mbps) is $452,712 (Only $181.96 per Mbps!! :D)
A T-1 is more your speed. T-1s can come in 128 Kbps ($191 a month), 192 Kbps ($227), 256 Kbps ($271), 384 Kbps ($342), 512 Kbps ($410), 768 Kbps ($569), and 1.5 Mbps ($540) varieties.
Still not fast enough? NxT-1 then comes in speeds ranging from 3Mbps to 12Mbps ($1,220 to $4,363 a month).
Remember all of these are dedicated lines, same up, same down (If I remember correctly).
