I don't 'get' how to play Sims 3.

I'd like to start by asking that you not laugh at me :bday:

I'm an action/adventure person and I wanted a change. I heard Sims 3 was good and people have always enjoyed the sims so I got it.

I made a guy, plopped him in a house..... then I tried to modify the house and ended up not being able to figure out how to make stairs go up to the porch so he ended up very frustrated and kind of starving wandering the streets...

What's the point? What am I supposed to do? What goal do I work towards? What is the game 'flow' if you will

(IE, in crysis, game flow is cloak, position, kill, aquire, adapt, position again, cloak, snipe that guy, make it to end of level, repeat)

well, its supposed to be life, so the flow is birth/creation, get smart, struggle, get a job, struggle, have children, struggle, retire, get old, struggle, die.

There is no tutorial to life. There are however, tutorials in home building. I suggest you just move into a house so you can focus on living. You'll pick it up.

There's nothing to 'get' really. Sim games are sandbox games with no end goal like evolution. You can do whatever you want with them. Do you want him to be a doctor? A criminal? Do you want him to have 15 children with 15 different women? Or maybe the leader of the free world. It's up to you to create a sim and give him the life you want him to have.

How do I go from "Beard, red hair, flip flops, red shirt, jeans" and "that house" to married doctor with 5 kids and a sports car though?

How does one 'aquire' stuff, buy stuff, make money, make friends, make connections, etc?

It can take some time, but start out with going down to the hospital and getting a career in medicine then go to one of the community lots and start flirting with the ladies. You know just like real life ;).

Jump on the PC, read the paper, etc are all ways to look for jobs. Get on the phone or go to the park to meet women, talk to them, flirt, etc etc. You can buy things at the mall or whatever, and they will just go into your inventory. If you are looking to buy household things, go into buy mode and just click on them and drop them where you want them.

No you can join any career path at any time, but you always start out at the bottom. You have to work your way to the top. Like for the medicine career you start as a bed pan cleaner I think.

I got the Urbz for the original xbox back in 2004, and I was playing it for alittle bit then i realized.... I need to go take a shower, I need to take the trash out, I need to go to sleep, pay the bills, go to work, ....eat.... etc etc

I realized I was doing everything twice and I didn't want to log into a game and do it all over again, so it just killed it for me.

So essentially what happens if you just let your avatar go? do they become a raging bum? wondering about? begging? alienated, and washed up with other pan handlers and dumpster divers?

Ok, so far, my sim, Sandra ********, has a house, and a job at the police station... which she hasnt shown up for yet.

I tried to find her a partner but all the men and women she's hit on shoot her down. One guy seemed interested outside the theater-- I got his green bar all the way up and then he got in a car and split... Do I have his number? Can I call him? What's the deal?

I also walked into someone's house and ate from their fridge.. The male child hated me but I think I half flirted into bed with the dad... Still no dice...

I even went to the beach in a swimsuit but there were only old cranky women playing chess... And I burned hot dogs.

I also caught a gold fish.

You have a cell phone in your inventory tab you can use it to call people you know.
