View Full Version : HX620 4870x2 plus Aquagate Max, Enough?
Hi im thinking about upgrading to a 4870x2 i was wondering if it would run with the power supply i am using which is a HX620.
Im running
Q8200 stock clocks
aquagate max water cooling
dominator 4GB kit with Fan
1 HDD
1 DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive
2 120mm LED fans
2 200mm Fans 1 of them is LED
this is a PSU calculator that i used, http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine, said the recommended for that set up was 546W.
Just wondering what you guys think, thanks

i'm pretty sure that'll be enough.
i would want 750W myself, but i always over estimate/worry too much.
the HX620 is also a very stable PSU. i woudln't be surprised if it could handle over 620W.
i say go for it

Yes, your existing PSU will surfice. You should not have problems upgrading to a 4870X2.
If you were looking for a brand new PSU, then I would recommend the hx850. If I remember correctly, it's not only able to supply more power, but also more efficient and has better DC output; less ripples, more stable voltage etc.
But since you already have a hx620, which is an excellent PSU at its time, I don't see a reason to buy a new one just to accomodate the 4780X2. I expect it to last for quite sometime more.

HX620 is more than enough for your system.I ran a Q6600 + 4gb's of DDR2 1066 and four hard drive's in raid-0 + two DVD+rw's and two 8800GTS 512mb's in SLI plus a usb zip drive and 3 or 4 120mm fans all off the HX620.Oh and the Q6600 was running 3.6ghz and the video cards were OCed pretty high also
And if you do end up buying a new psu.The Corsair 850HX is a great psu as is the 850TX
thanks guys sounds like my psu will handle it. looks like im buying myself a really early Xmas present.
