I'm looking to buy an external enclosure for my 2.5'' laptop HDD. I've bought a couple enclosures off the bay which use 44-pin style connector. Do all external enclosures use 44-pins? I am using a WD5000BEVT, but it doesn't use a 44-pin style connector. Is there a special adapter to connect from what it is to 44-pin? If an adapter is needed, will it fit inside the external enclosure?
The 44 pin is IDE. Now a days you will see SATA enclosures, which will fit the WD5000BEVT, since IDE will turn into a forgotten standard. I don't think a connector, if there is one, will fit in any 2.5" enclosure, unless it is ridiculously big.

they run over a different "language", so u would need some sort of converter- u cant do like a pin-to-pin change
