It all depends on your system, basically just try it both ways and see which gives you better temps.
Then let us know :D
Try both and go with what works best for you.

Out. Alpha puts a shroud around the top for that reason.
If you use the insocket thermistor to test the difference between in and out you'll get very inaccruate results as you're changing the airflow around the thermistor.

My temps were several degrees lower with the fan blowing out.
hey guys i think this should be lower i get 41 idle.. blowing out.. and not sure but i think it was better in... and 41 IDLE that cant be right..
ALSO MY WINDOWS WONT BOOT WHEN I GO TO 1333 FROM MY 1.13.. I GET WINDOWS PROTECTION ERROR..
5 degrees lower blowing in..
There really is no right answer across the board. I depends on the setup of everyone's individual system, and most importantly, how air flows through the case. In some cases it will be best to blow in and in others to blow out. There really is no easy way to predict which way will be best other than building and extremely complex CFD model.
Solution? Try it both ways. Unfortunately, as Thelemac stated, if you are using an in-socket thermistor, it's very hard to get accurate readings because there are too many ways to influence the reading.

Someone who built a Palomino temp diode reader needs to compare this. That would be an accurate way to get results.
