I know I know who would want to overclock a x1550?
Me thats who..lol...hey guys I have been building this gamer pc for a while now and just got all the tweaks and bugs fixed....now comes to graphics.

I had this old PCIE card lying around its a Ati x1300/1550 Card.
It plays most of my games well except some...I wanted to push this card a bit more and overclcok it till I could save up for a big nice
ATi Card (4800 Series).

I know I dont need any comments about how old it is..I already know...if someone could help me oc it a bit I would appreicate it, I have all current CCC Drivers and Cat. Con. Center, I also have Ati Tray Tools....heard that was something I should get.
I looked around on Ati Tray Tools and really had no idea on what I was doing so I just closed it a came here to ask about it.

I know my way around Bios and stuff, please help me extend the life of this card...lol...i know I wont get much more but anything to help....HELPS!!!

Thanks Guys...OC FORUM ROCKS!!!!

Just use CCC overdrive to oc it? AFAIK you cant change the voltage on gpus just off the bat like that. CCC has an auto-tune feature which will oc for you.. Works fine for me. You can usually push it further than CCC allocates though.. I'm not sure how gpu bios OC'ing works, if at all?

I've only ever used ati overdrive/ntune or RivaTuner to oc gpus..

I just bought one of those for my brothers computer actually :P
It's an upgrade from his x550.

I don't think the CCC has the overclocking section for those, but i could be wrong.
I would download Rivatuner and try that.

yea thers is no overclocking in ccc on this card...i guess they locked it out.
I have ati tray tools and rivatuner but dont know how to work them?

Could you give a brief explanation? on the precedures for them>thanx

Light off rivatuner, in the main page where it lists the GPUs in a drop down box select the x1550, then under that it'll say "x1550" and have a little sneaky hidden button at the very right end of the box (the box under the dropdown box), hit that. Then select "low level something", the further left button and hit that.
That should give you a couple slider bars with ram and GPU speed stamped on 'em.

If i'm confusing you and nobody else chimes in i can light off XP tomorrow sometime (on linux right now) and do a photo guide.
Once you have the slider, crank one 10% and run something demanding and see if it eats it.
If it doesn't fail, give it another 10% and try again.
Eventually (probably on the second bump, an x1550 is an overclocked x1300 after all) things will go to hell, at that point (after you've recovered) set the slider halfway between the last that worked and the one that failed, and try that.
Once you've figured out how far the first slider can go (you can start with ram or GPU, i like to start with GPU personally), set it to whatever worked and play with the other one.

Of course while you're doing this you should be monitoring the temps too, as i'm not sure a card as old as a x1550 has thermal throttling.
