...tolerate a high FSB?

Just puttin' my main rig together and I was wondering, should I spring for a new NIC?

I've been using a D-link, which has tolerated a FSB of 145+ in the past, but I was wondering, are their any brands which are more tolerant of overclocking?

I have access to a 3com somethin' er' other card and I have a Linksys card also.

Are any of these better than the other or is their another brand to consider? Netgear maybe?

Just wondering, thanks! :)

I'm running a Linksys LNE100TX in my P3 machine, and the FSB is at 148. It wont load windows at 150, so I havent tried it faster than 148.

Only have 2 machines running over 133 right now, the other being the K7S5A, its at 150 FSB. No problems with the LAN built in the MB.

i have to d-link 530 tx+ and its cheap (like $15) and it can stand very high fsb speeds.

I have run 3Com, Intel and Compusa $12 nics at 150 fsb with no problems. I also have a Compusa $12 nic that won't take a fsb hardly at all-137/138 MAYBE.

I think they are like memory: the good (and costly) ones are usually ok, and the cheap ones are more of a gamble, but will sometimes work fine.

But there is no guarantee that any of them will run over spec.

I've had good luck with Intel when OC'ing, but never any problems with 3com either

My netgear can take upto a 38 or 39 MHz pci bus before it decides that I really don't need the internet that bad.

Also... Welcome to the Forums nuclearmonkey;)

It all depends if your pci is in spec or not.
My 3com one (look at sig) can handle a 39mhz pci. I tried 42 but i dont know if the networkcard is preventing me from hitting that or if its my usb card, most likeley its the usb one.
Edit: it is my usb card my network card craps out at 45mhz pci :) but i dont trust running it this high, i might corrupt my hdds, lol. im gonna switch back :p

i have 2 old (and cheap) 3COM 905B NIC in 2 of my rigs that's running at 153MHz right now. no problem at all. and on top of that, every single modern OS (Win9x/NT/2K/XP) has driver built in it already, which is great when installing or reformatting!

3Com 905C running a 167Mhz FSB with 1/4 PCI divider. Runs stable and there's only a handful of people running a higher FSB than me. I have also put a 486 heatsink on the main chip on the NIC.
