View Full Version : Best 5.1 surround sound card?
I mostly follow cpu/video card technologies and ignore the sound department. but my sound is well pretty much CRAP. Anyone tell me some good cards to look for that have 5.1 capabilities. Price doesnt matter much....

Well, the GameTheater XP is 6.1, hehe, one more channel to add to the effects! check it out, it's cheaper than the audigy line and I think it sounds just as good if not better, i've got a system with each card and can't really tell a difference, plus the XP has a great I/O rack that makes connectivity so awesome.

id say get the audigy if u have a intel system or amd chipset, or try the 6.1 game theather.. 6.1 sounds cool..
I'd say the GameTheatre XP. To save your hassle w/ Via chipest and SB Live I would take it. AMD uses abit of Via as well as their motherboards are packaged with the Via 4in1's.

Not all of us with Audigy and VIA are having problems. I have the Soyo Dragon which has the KT266A VIA chipset and have the Audigy Gamer and this thing sounds sweet as all get out.
I am very pleased with my GTXP. Just watch out for conflicts between the GTXP drivers and Highpoint Raid drivers. I found that the latest interations of the Highpoint Raid drivers have resolved this conflict though.
I really like the intergrated MP3 decoding chip -- when I listen to music on Window Media Player my CPU load is like 0-2%. Pretty impressive.
