Things needed for this:
Electrical Tape
Razorblade Knife
ide cables
floppy cables
maginifing glass if your going blind to see where the wires are.

I have found an alternative to buying those expensive round ide and floppy cables i know this has most likely been done before but it sounded original when i started this project first you know you can fold those cables in half and make a smaller and more air flow friendly cable then you can tape it up so it stays small or you can just use a number divisible by 40 for the ide cables and use that number to count rows and then take a knife or razorblade and cut between the wires but be careful not to expose the wiring its not that hard after you have done this please tape up the cables making them round this is a cheap way the tape costs about 1.00 at your local dollar store remember you need electrical tape. and a razorblade another dollar.

DONT DO IT THAT WAY FOR ATA 66 - 133!!!!!
i did and i wasted a cable!!! what you do is take a safety pin and run it between the wires a few times till they start comming apart and then just pull them apart carefully!

The home made rounded cables are also much more flexable. If you use plastic tubing around the cables it looks really cool.

Making them is a pain. I did it with my first set after that I bought a pair of rounded blue IDE and a blue Floppy. Next week I'll be buying a pair of purple IDE and Floppy.

I made my ide cables round about two days ago. Not only do you save money because the round cables are so expensive, but since your using electrical tape, there are so many colors to choose from. At my local home depot, there were at least 6 or 7 colors of tape to choose from.

the problem is that 6 bucks a piece i am running both raid controllers and both ide1 and ide2 plus the floppy drive cable so it gets expensive plus the shipping this is an alternative also not meant to relplace the rounded ones this is for peeps that like to be different or cant afford those

just one question... not to flame or anything..... but making round cables on your own is a widely known fact....hell ive been doing it for like 3-4 years....sure they do make rounded cables... but i honestly don't find it that hard to make my own...

in the time it takes the average person to pull out their credit card, fill out and online order form, and then confirm their order..... i can make my own cable... let alone wait for shipping :D :D :D :D

well ive been ocing 2 months so im new at all this so the round cables i said most likely not original just seemed that way and i agree if i read that right its easy and faster than having to wait for shipping

You can use more than just electrical tape to make your own rounded cables. You can use tommy tape, spiral wrap and loom. Check them out i am partial to the spiral wrap.

Hey, your forgot Duct Tape. How could you forget that, it can be used for everything. I use it to Hold HDD/FDD's in place, block holes in my case(to hold cold air in), fix splices on cables, ... It's got a use for everything, best investment i ever made.

The easiest way is to fold it like a W...

Fold it once, then fold each half in half and put a cable tie on a few points on the cable. Takes about 2 minutes, and is as small as a home-rounded cable. Still, the machine-done ones that look good are only $5-8 at online shops now.

My case is so big I had to buy 2x 1M cables, cost me £20 but they look cool.

And there really flexible.
I gave up on creation after wasting 3 ATA100 cables!!!!
