I really like these G. Skill memories they match Maximus III board so well. I set XMP in BIOS and right to 2000k without a blink.

No more poster on this board but replacing it is the ROG Connect Feature. This neat feature allows you to hook up your laptop to the Maximus board via a supplied USB cable. View real-time post codes and hardware status readouts. You will be able to Monitor the status of your PC and tweek it's parameters in real-time via the laptop just like a race car engineer.

Watch this video on it: http://www.casttv.com/ext/g7uj1b

This is really a neat feature. It's suppose to be on the Genie too. I'm just trying it out and it works great. I really like the ability to save profiles and load them on the fly. It seems so weird to use another computer to clock your desktop.

Here's how I got it to go:
1. Load ROG connection software on your laptop.
2. Connect USB cable from laptop to MB.
3. Launch ROG connect on laptop.
4. Press ROG connect button. (this then connects to your laptop)
5. Power on desktop and monitor from laptop.

This Zalman has an 1156 bracket already. I checked with Thermaright and Xigmatek both said 1156 bracket is on the way we should be able to buy before end of September.

The Zalman is massive in size. Check 2 pics below.

what is with that massive "block" on the southbridge? it still uses the ich10r, right? so why the need for the extra large mosfet?

oh, and I agree, the ripjaws look sweet, and from what I understand, perform just as well. I kinda like the tridents for 1366 though... a bit more prominent design.

This board should yield a killer OC...using an Intel stock cooler on it will be a disgrace to the board and CPU ;)

theres no more 'southbridge' with p55. the p55 chipset is called the 'Platform Controller Hub'

good read here : http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...re-i5-750-core-i7-870-processor-review-5.html

Sweet, I will have to same mobo/cpu here 2morrow, those Gskill look bada$$! The stock heatsink will only be on it to setup drives (3 vertex in Raid 0 for some Vantage action) after it will be a F1EE sitting on top of that cpu! Can't wait to give it a run. This is my first Intel rig since the Prescott era, so we'll see how it go

ok, that is an interesting read, and I will admit, I did not know that, but I still gotta know why they felt the need for such a massive heatsink? lol, it even says in that article that it's identical to a southbridge in manufacturing and voltage terms, so it should still run cool.

eh well, maybe I just like a clean looking board.

Core i7 920 vs Core i7 860 Vantage Match Round 1

Okay here's a little comparision match in Vantage between Core i7 920 vs Core i7 860 same EVGA 285 but different boards and processors. The i7 860 starts and is only oc to 3.1 but almost matches 920 in GPU scores. The 860 get's knocked down in the CPU score tests which the 920 has the advantage at the moment.

The Vantage Competition Match begins with Round 1:

Asus RE II x58 & Core i7 920 OC 4.4 6gb Memory

Asus Max III P55 & Core i7 860 oc 3.1 4gb Memory
corei7860oc31evga285stock.png

Round 2 - 860 fights back with a better 3.78 OC. I would have thought this run would get overall better Vantage score but it went down in some spots and CPU scores were up but not by that much.
corei7860oc37evga285stock.png

Round 3 - 860 has a good round and beats out 920 in Vantage scores with just 4.268ghz
Vantagecorei7860p554268-evga285stk.jpg

Vantagecorei7860p554268close-up-evg.jpg

Conclusion is that the 860 puts up a good fight during the Vantage battle and wins by a decision. The 920 seems faster still but by the numbers it looks like it's a dead heat.

The Zalman HSF came in Early. Here best 4.414ghz 1.36v OC for today somewhat stable still tweaking. That RC Tweakit tool running on my Asus laptop makes this possible. It helps quite a bit to OC this chip.

Definitely looks good! Have you tried dropping the multi and seeing how high you can push the Bclk? Trying to see how normal (non-extreme cooling) folks fare.

I really liked this board. Check out the classified section for more information (you will need 100 posts).

Hers it is with a HeatKiller mounted, I had to drill the mounting plate myself as 1156 is not available yet
