I was getting board this weekend because i had my new windows kit in the mail and i had nothing to do. So I started to stare at my keyboard lights and got board of that cheap green glow. i decided to open up my keyboard and see how they were connected. To my luck those lights were nothing more than 3mm led's. So after a quick visit to Radio Shack and a little help from my soldering kit, those cheap 3mm green led's were replace with big, bright, 5mm blue leds. Now my PC looks so much better becacuse my entire system now is white and blue. hehe!!:D
i recomend you try this at home, it's relatively simple and makes your system look better

Yeah, lets see pics. I would do the mod, but use a Logitech Cordless keybard, so there are no LED's on it.

I'll try to get pics in the next few days. I'll have to go to my friends house and have him lend me his camera. Don't worry if you have a cheap keyboard, mine's is too. I've had it for three years!!! When i took it apart, i just cleaned the board and every key one by one (took me about 30 min) and man did my fingers hurt when i finished. Now my keyboard looks brand new !!!

Also, if you really want to make you keyboard nice, you could get those blinking leds or the ones that have two colors!!! I didn't do it to mines because it would not have matched.:D

I'm not sure the two color ones would really do anything other than display one single color. The way the work is if the power goes through the LED one way it'll be one color. If it goes in the other way, it'll be a different color.

I guess that you have a cheap keyboard Dissovled beacuase i've had mine three years and i am using it constantly and the none of the keys are fading. Also, the two color leds that i am reffering too are ones that can be seen as diffrerent colors from diffrent angles

There are no LED's on it for a reason. It is cordless. It is only powered by 2 AA batteries. LED's are not worth the power they would draw. Logitech's solution to this is to have onscreen indicators for the 3 locks. They put little icons in the taskbar. I deactivate those though. It is hardly a critical indicator.

You know what would look really nice,
put some kind of light in the keaboard that would glow from around all the keys... I wonder what would work for that.:eh?:
You can see how someone used glow wire to backlight the keys on their keyboat at: http://www.beingseen.com/instructions.html
Their approach would work on my keyboard, but I thought I might be able to use an EL sheet to do the same thing.

electro luminescent (EL) cable such as gloWire.
Its a reasonably common mod. Search google or something for it and i bet theres a stepbystpe guide...I think i saw one somewhere....

I here all this talk about logitech's wireless keyboards. why would you want a wireless keyboard?(unless you had a couch in ur comp. room.) wireless mice are cool, though.

So you wouldn't have to deal with a wire.
Really though. Right away I can think of like 6 desks that I've worked at where the keyboard wire get snagged on something, caught in keyboard tray rollers, etc. I think the best answer to your question is to try it and see for yourself. I got the combo because it only costs a little more than the mouse alone. Now I can grab the keyboard and lean back with the kb on my lap several feet away from the computer. It's also good for having a computer hooked to a TV. Keep the kb on the coffee table.
When you suddenly don't have that wire in the way, you really appreciate it.
