I have the older Klipsch THX ProMedia 5.1 computer speakers. They recently started producing 'noise' out of all 5 speakers at any given time. More like a constant hissing/whine sometimes it'll pop and static then go away then come back. It'll do it with all connections disconnected from soundcard etc. I'm thinking its something gone bad in the power supply part inside the subwoofer.
Does anyone know what I could check before I send it off to this elliot guy that wants $120 to fix it.

I think your right, it gave up on you after all these years.. Maybe got to hot and bused the amp/woofer ,,, Have it fixed, put it on ebay and buy a new pair for yourself,,

Also as long as it's not a cable issue. If you disconnect th power to turn the unit off, and not sleep. Try that let it cool down then turn it on and see how sound is. Also make sure the connection are fit in nicely and not loose on both ends,, the woofer and behind your sound card... That 120 to fix t is too high. What if it was pro media 2.1 , then the fix costs more then the unit itself.
You should have warrany with Klipsch for 5 years I think or more maybe,, so you can go that route and get a replacement... gl ,,, and stuff like this happens , just try the stuff I said above and if its still hissing then just get a new pair ,,, instead of spending 120 on a shady fix,, that will proably burn a fuse again.. Tell Elliot I sell them to you for 120 buck,, and buy yourself a new pair of pro media . gl

If you can / want to get it apart, I would look for capacitors that are going bad, just like happens on motherboards. if a cap is shot and tons of noise is coming into the amp through the power supply, it would easily be audible over the speakers.

Your probably right four ,, that is what happened . Regardless he needs to RMA it and get a brand new one... Take the unit on another pc, if its same ,, then RMA ,, if it works like a charm, then its your PC , and we can further troubleshoot,,, gl
