so far I'm not enjoying it as much as the first. That's not to say that it's bad, I just thought it would be a lot better and more polished.
I played the first one with a friend on the magic-electrical-box and have to say the mashing you speak of fits the description of the first.
We've yet to play the 2nd one though. I shall inform him of your take :p

New story, different characters from what I understand.

yeah the story is centered around SHIELD and Dr. Doom's leftover regime after his "death" but I have a feeling due to some hints dropped by Thor that there will be a level involving Doom and Agard.
I consider myself comic book knowledgeable but there are some really third and fourth tier heroes and bad guys in this one so far and some I've never even heard of.

I wouldn't even have bought Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 after Arkham Asylum
Forget about it.
NOBODY has talked about this game. If it was going to be any good at all, then it would've gotten the same buzz Batman got.
Instead the only buzz has been about Marvel going under and getting bought out by DISNEY of all people.
Good lucky spiderman!

Actually the beginning part that I didn't really like was just one unbelievably friggin long intro. Now that I'm actually into the story it is based on the Civil War storyline and you get to choose which side you want to be on: Pro-Registration or the Heroes Rebellion. It's still a button masher though, just one with great cutscenes.

You remember that 3D DC (or was it marvel?) game they were working on before that company went belly-up? The one where you could smash through walls and fly and do all this other stuff...
What was that called?
I would love to play through Civil War just to kick Iron Man's ass... But I wish they made a realistic boss fight out of it... nobody knows how to make boss fights anymore...

You're talking about DC universe which was supposed to an MMORPG and there was also a Marvel Universe game to be slated as well. I can't remember which one but one of the two is on again and is being done by the same people that did City of Heroes.
