I just all the stuff got my Cat 5 cable ready to go with just the wires at the ends. I bought a couple of RJ-45 tips. Now i am ready to hook it up. How do i know what wire goes where. I dont have a crimper is there anyway i could get the wires pressed together if i dont have one of these tools?

Thanks

It's best to use a crimper, than you know that you will have good connections. As for the ends, are any of them crossover cables? And what type of network is it, there's different configurations of the wires for differnt networks.

Here's the configuration for the AT&T 258A Standard (EIA568B)

Pin 1 - White/Orange
Pin 2 - Orange
Pin 3 - White/Green
Pin 4 - Blue
Pin 5 - White/Blue
Pin 6 - Green
Pin 7 - White/Brown
Pin 8 - Brown.

I'll do a search for other common standards and post them.
Hope this helps

you can buy snapin, crimperless connectors at like radioshack or such, however they are like 4-8 bucks each, so it is best to buy some crimpers which run from 10-40$

ive found that the strippers that you buy or come with the crimpers are trash

i strip the way i used to when i worked avionics in the service, and needed to strip and had no room for error , just take a stright edge razor and touch it at the spot u want start, lightly press it around the OD of the cable. then remove the razor and bend back the cable at the razor line and lightly touch up your cut as you bend, you will get a very clean strip with this process, and after a few times you will get good at it

It took me a long time to do this myself when i set up my home network, but in the end its worth it
