In a couple labs in my school, we have keyboards with red LEDs built right in to the num lock; caps lock; and scroll lock keys. it looks really cool so I think I'll try it sometime, but I was wondering if anyone else has done it or even seen a keyboard with LEDs in the keys. maybe if I get really into it, I'll put LEDs on all the keys, so that they light up when pressed, but that could get messy.

That could get both incredibly involved and rather expensive. If you even think about it, make sure that you're operating on a backup keyboard (duh), or maybe even get a broken keyboard to figure out how you're going to do it.

i thinkt that would be really cool

you could either do it all hardware ( i think would be less messy)

or hardware and software ( witch would let you do effects and stuff)

for the hardware all you would need is presher sensors on each key and a led and a centeral powersupply ( mabey usb)

for hadware and software you would have to install a keyreader and have it go threw the comport or something back up the cable to the lights

but all in all i think that would kick some @$$

I've seen keyboards with LED's biuilt into the caps scroll and num lock keys... mostly on really old keyboards... but it is a lot cooler than having them seperate from the keys. Also... If you were to put LED's on all of the keys then I would beware of them touching the wrong part of the keyboard and hence "pressing" the wrong key... even though you pressed the right key. Ambitious as it is I think it's all in all a great idea. You should check out my post on the Nomad Jukebox, I've got more ideas on it right now that I am going to post soon.

Sincerely,
