View Full Version : measuring the CPU temp
Are the CPU temp probes built into the mobo fairly accurate (I'm using a Soltek SL-75DRV2) or would placing a temp probe on the cpu work better? I was going to do this but I'm not sure where to place the probe to get accurate results and not hinder the heatsink cooling (soon to be waterblock :D ). Can someone help clarify this?
thanks

they are fairly accurate, but if anything they are low. the thermal diode under the chip measures the rear of the chip basiacally, not the actual die, so i think it be low if off at all.

if you have a probe, the best solution i have seen is to fit the probe between the hs and the chip and rest it against the side of the die. I know with amd chips there is a space between the chip and the hs, not sure on pentium chips i think they do to. If you want something more permanent, you can glue the probe to the bottom of the heatsink precisely where the probe will touch the side of the die
