View Full Version : HELP! Proxy Confusion

i don't know why i've never been much concerned with my internet privacy. i guess i was just naive and trusting. i thought, i clear my history, check my cookies, don't submit personal info on non-secure pages what do i have to worry about. i never thought about every where i go, every time i hit the enter key, i left my little digital footprint (my IP address). not that i'm into anything illegal, or that i have a "big brother" complex. but i feel where i go and what i download should be private. however my quest for privacy has got my head spinning. :burn:

what i'm looking for... i want to be able to protect my privacy without sacrificing too much of my speed and without paying someone a monthly fee.

from what i can find it looks like my best bet is either a going through a public proxy or subscribing to a proxy service. the downsides to both being if i try going through a public proxy most are crowded and the relay time will slow down my download speeds, or in order to preserve my speed i have to pay a private proxy service. and even then the private services still have my comings and goings so it's still not 100% private. i'm using FireFox as my browser, if there's some program or addon that could help. i'm even willing to buy some software for a one time fee.

can someone help me out with a solution? or even a link to somewhere that explains things simply and in detail. and if any of my logic is wrong or i'm missing some better option than the "proxy way", i'm still learning, so i'm open to criticism. just don't rip me apart.
