Anyone else tried putting their computers outside in the cold winter weather?
Normally my system maxes out at 148 Mhz FSB, and the CPU temp is around 46 degrees.
I put my system outside and the CPU temp went down to 9 degrees, I got my Front Side Bus Cranked to 165 Mhz! Wow it really makes a difference.
I thought I fried parts when I turned it up to 167 though. The system wouldn't even boot to the BIOS. I brought it in and let it warm up. Eventually it decided that It would start for me... But I was worried for a while though.
No, I wouldn't do that.
You take a risk of putting your computer into condensation when doing that. Especially without no condensation protection I wouldn't do it :D
Yeah man, You can bring the cold air to your pc, but dont take it outside and back in because once you bring it back in condensation sets in. I brought cold air to my case...

Now this is safer I belive...
You are lucky you didnt lose something in the process.
However, if you left it outside, well then it would be a different story...but who wants to wear a wintercoat in front of there comp?

I just thought it was a fun experiment. I gave it plenty of time for condensation to dry off. It got the system really cold too... I used to live somewhere it would get -20 at night. It'd be fun to experiment there... But then again the condensation thing is always a factor.
i was just thinking you could either leave it outside and get extension cord to be at the monitor inside. Or you could get water proofing spray that you use for boots and stuff to spray your system. It may smell funny but it will prevent against condensation.

I just set it up by a sliding door, ran the cables through the door crack. That way I could work on it inside. Sure a little cold air leaked in, but it's the price we pay... or something.
I had it out there for over an hour. Never had to get cold myself.
I think the best way to take long term advantage of the cold is with water cooling. You can put the radiator outside and keep the computer inside.
