ok i basicly need to find out if i have covered my bases on my end.

my internet will drop out at random all day for the past few weeks and each time resetting the modem brings it back with the exception of one time when i had to call up and tell them its not working. at that time they said they were having problems and expect it to be fixed within a week, thats been 3 weeks ago.

so basicly it drops at random, we have 3 desktops and 3 laptops on the network and all of them lose connection to the internet when this happens.
not all of them are on at the same time, its usually a max of 2.

wireless is secured

we have tried both different routers and modems and it still happens.

if it drops and we plug one computer directly into the modem it still does not work.

up to date firmware and stuff like that

i need this fixed, i am starting school and i also need to order things for my car and some pants to fit my ever expanding ass it always seems to happen when i am trying to get something important done.

it truly happens at random, not a peak hours thing. its 10pm now and it just happened.

have i covered my end of things well enough?
i cant get the statistics off the modem (frequencys and such) if needed

no lie i had the exact same problem. I called the cable company the next day they came out and replaced cable going from the wall to the modem, problem fixed. he said the cheap (it cost me like $5 for 25ft) cable was fine for tv but didnt have enough shielding for the internet. He put in a real heavy cable and haven't had a problem in over 2 months.

coupla questions... did it rain recently? how old is the coax from the street to the house? how is the incoming coax split up between the other coax cables in the house?

If it rained it could be shorting out the coax / degrading the signal from the house to the street.

If your line is old, moisture could of collected over time from the house to the street line causing it to short out / degrade the signal.

Those combind with non high frequency splitters at your cable box / not having the cable modem on the first y spliter (in from street with two outs, one to the modem, one to the other splitters for tvs n whanot) can cause dropping like that.

What is the signal strength at the modem (look up the ip address to access the simple modem webpage... when i had cable it was something like 192.168.0.1 or something)

heres that it gives me for downlink:
Frequency: 723000000 Hz
QAM Mode: 256 QAM
Channel Power: -4.0 dBmV
SNR: 33.967 dB

figure i'd just get em all

no it hasnt rained recently and its kinda strange that the modem to wall cable has lost its sheilding all of a sudden but i'll try that out, we've got lots of spare cable.

this outlet is the only one that goes to the cable company, there are seperate coax, and i mean completely seperated set from the cable modem for dish network.
to make it perfectly clear i am going to say it again another way because some ones going to get confused and say the dish netowrk is interfereing with it.

the only thing thats using the cable box is the cable modem, disnetwork has its own splitter/combiner on the side of the house and has seperate lines from any thing to do with the cable modem and cable box
