Hi, my PC's an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 on an Asus P5Q-E Motherboard.
Im planning on adding 4gb (2x 2gb) of RAM and overclock the PC to 3.4Ghz..

Now the PC's already got a 4gb (2x 2gb) Gskill DDR2 1000 RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145) that works on 5-5-5-15 timings and 2.0V - 2.1V voltage..

Im ordering new RAM from Amazon.com and they dont stock the same Gskill RAM I'm looking for. What would you guys recommend for smoothest and best RAM option?
Im between:
OCZ SLi Edition (http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-OCZ2N1000SR4GK-PC2-8000-1000MHz-SLI-Ready/dp/B001DHHX9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253775554&sr=1-1) and OCZ Platinum Series (http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Platinum-240-Pin-1000MHz-Memory/dp/B0012RDPR0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253775554&sr=1-4).. What do you guys think?

What's wrong w/ the RAM you have currently? For a 3.4GHz clock speed, running at 400MHz x 8.5 for example, using a 5:6 divider (333/800 NB strap) you end up w/ an effective DRAM frequency of 960MHz. And running a 4:5 ratio (266/667 strap), you end up w/ a DRAM freq. of exactly 1000MHz.

Probably the platinums, the only difference being the tRAS at 18 instead of 15 w/ the G.Skill's. The rated Vdimm is 2.1v w/ both sets of modules, so just run all four sticks at 1000MHz (400 x 8.5; 4:5 divider, 5-5-5-18) or 5:6 at 960Mhz and possibly tighter sub-timings.

There is also the OCZ 1066Mhz Platinum Series (http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-OCZ2P10664GK-PC2-8500-Platinum-Channel/dp/B0017SA5ZY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253878964&sr=8-4).. Also noticed that the SLi Edition runs on CL 5-4-4-15 (http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-OCZ2N1000SR4GK-PC2-8000-1000MHz-SLI-Ready/dp/B001DHHX9K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1253879285&sr=8-4) so still unsure which one to go for

Well.
The problem is that the ICs are going to be mismatched, no matter whose you purchase, unless you can find an identical module revision. That may present some stability problems at the very least. The modules may not want to play together at all.
All you can do is buy it and try it.

thats what I was guessing too, its a hit and miss thing
Hopefully the Gskills would work with the OCZ platinums.. Theyre both exactly the same spec except the OCZ has TRAS on 18 while the Gskill is 15.. Would this make a huge difference?
