sigh, I wish there was a 120gb for around $200-ish... :( don't wanna go back to same boat before, i need at least 80gigs coz of photoshop and addons :(

I'd say see some in spring for price drops. Other companies will start releasing there 34nm versions of NAND chips which will drop there prices.

There is no media that can be written to indefinitely, they all eventually fail. It is true that this media also has that issue, but you are looking at 40+ years of constant formatting to even come close to hitting the write limit. I trust SSD much more than their mechanical counterparts.

I was worried earlier as well, but you're right - if you look at the numbers on these, they'll last a very long time. They're likely much more reliable than mechanical drives (though they haven't been out for five years, so there's not a lot of evidence out there).

USB Flash drives have less of a life then these if not mistaken.

As well while still quiet new technology, I'd trust 10,000 re-write operations over a mech drive. I mean really how much do you write to the drive per day?

So say you write to your drive roughly 2.5Gigs per day, heck lets make it 10Gigs per day. Now lets look at this. 60Gig drive @ 50% capacity. Leaves ~30Gigs to play with. Out of that 30Gigs 10Gigs gets written and deleted every day. So that will take 3 days to fill that chunk of the drive and say the other 30Gigs of the drive is Static... never changing, just reads.

Ok moving on 3 Days = 1 Write Operation. MLC drive has 10,000+ write operations before it just becomes read only. So lets see it will only take 82.2 years to exhaust that portion of the drive. Even if you wrote 60Gigs to just that part of the drive, it would take 13.7 years before that 30Gigs goes bad.

Or..... the extreme of extreme cases, the full 60Gigs you have access too. You write to the drive constantly at maximum speed, say this case 70MB/sec, or to make a better number 252Gigs per hour (4.2Gigs per min). At that rate the drive after writing 60TB worth of data would last 238 Hours or about 10 days.

I was ooh no at first with limited write operations but til you do the math, you notice that there is ALOT of headroom in these drives and that they will be obsolete well before the drive will go bad really.
