View Full Version : Seti Legal issue.

I was reading the news on the bbc and this article was one of them that caught my eye.
Thought it might be of some interest.
It's sad when the legal system is used in this way. After all, the guy was just trying to help human kind. He definately should have asked before installing the software. Gees, give the guy a break. He wasn't doing anything inherently evil.
Yeah this case is absurd. I'm from Dekalb county, and even had a couple summer classes at dekalb tech. I've followed the local news coverage of it here and there. Their claims of damages and expenses are quite preposterous.
If you are tempted to run Seti or distributed.net clients or any others at work then DON'T DO IT unless you have written permission. I have access to more CPUs at work than I can count but I have never given into temptation knowing that I would almost definitely be caught and most likely face financial ruin as a result.

Man, I can't believe that. Don't you just wonder who the people are behind this? I can't believe a prosecutor could wake up in the morning, look themself in the eye and think "gee, today I'll help make the world a better place by removing those malicious screen savers and those who install them!" It makes me sick!

Computer ignorance+overzealuous prosucutors=disgusting, ridiculous result.
Morons.
I know a guy (a prosecutor) that prosecuted a guy for DUI for mowing his lawn while drunk.

You know, these people had to be educated at some point in regards to the technical aspects. Why oh why would they continue to prosecute this guy?

I have 3 colleges & more than 4,000 workstations on the network...
If I could just run SETI on 1/2 of those, I'd be... well, I'd be... ALMOST as fast as TC... :D :D
