Hi
I am planning to get an
EVGA 01G-P3-1284-AR GeForce GTX 280 SSC Edition 1GB 512-bit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130368)
on the other hand,,,iam using an
ODIN GT 800W power supply (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/PowerSupply/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2490&ProductName=ODIN GT 800W)

newegg says that the gfx card needs a power supply with at least 40amps rating....mine is 62A BUT,,,it is a quad 12v rails...the highest rating is 28 A
so I want to be sure
would the power supply hold the gfx card perfectly?
or should i look for a new one?

If your PSU can supply its rated power then it should be able to power a pair GTX280's.

Look at some reviews of the ODIN GT 800W that should give you an idea of it capability.

28A x 12V = 336Watts

336 + 75 (PCIE) = 411Watts

You're completely safe. You can choose to balance each 6-pin connector from two different rails to even out the load.

The video card will come with that adapter, I 99% guarantee it ;)

You'll be find with that PSU for a single 280 :)

Iam getting the gfx from one of my friends who assured me that he doesn't have the pci-e power cable...
Am I in trouble?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but your PSU has 4 PCI-E power connectors (6+2) and the GTX280 needs 2 (a 6 and an 8)...so you shouldn't need any adapters.

Have you lost the modular cables that came with the PSU?

I think only 2 of the 4 PCIe connectors on that PSU are modular anyway, so he'll be fine even if he has lost the spares.

so I take it it that the psu will be ok with that gfx card?
thanks for the help :)

That PSU could easily handle a pair of 280's let alone one
