My friend has an old 20 gig that is indeed failing and i have no burner or zip to back up and i want to copy the entire drive to another hdd- how would i go about this? CAn i do it in dos of do i need a prog

what kind of hd are you copying it too?
Most hd companys have utilities that can be downloaded that will do what your trying to do. that way there shouldn't be any loss of data or mbr info.

go here (http://www.ranish.com/part) and download the Partition Manager utility. Boot up to DOS, run part.exe, hit F1, and then D...will copy an entire disc to any other disc present on your system...easy as pie! Plus, you can partition and format with it as well, an all-around great proggie

thank you...been using it for about a year now...partitioning is a breeze, formatting, verifying bad sectors, the works...hats of to M. Ranish, he wrote an excellent program...
EDIT: It will copy the partition, or the entire disc...but it WILL NOT copy the boot loader, so your info will be there, but you can't boot off the disc...in case you thought otherwise...:D
