SYSTEM has 7 drives now! Cool?

I've decided to add another back-plane to my system, for a total of 7 drives.

Running windows 7.

From top to bottom;

Raptor 150 gig, WD 250 RE16, Raptor 150 gig, Seagate ST3250410AS x4

Boot Raptors in RAID 0, 100 gig Slice. Remainder 174gig.

250gig RE16, spare - backups?

4 x 410AS in RAID 0, game installs.

What do you think?

I think I'd want the boot array to be RAID 1 rather than 0. RAID 0 increases STR at the cost of seek time (correct me if I'm wrong on that). OS is lots of small files, so shorter seek time means faster boot than high STR. High STR is good for reading a multi-GB DB into memory or loading a 500MB game map.

yes... I like to see all drive activity, the reason for the athena back planes

actually, the STR for a single raptor is only 75 MB/s... two in R0, I get 150MB/s with 7ms access time

8 SAS drives. Two RAID 1 arrays, and 1 RAID 5 array.

Using a 3ware 9690SA-8i RAID controller
