View Full Version : Cheap video out card
Here is what I am trying to do. I have a celeron 433 box that I want to use to hook up to our 62 inch tv to watch movies on. I have some dvds that we want to watch them on tv via an svideo cable. The question I have is what would be the best cheap pci video card that has tv out attached? I want something that is pretty good quality and that I can use for the purposes above. Any other suggestions that would be easier or tips, would be helpfull.

if your tv is HDTV a DVD player would be best....if its projection is suggest a RageFury Pro for about 60$.....the image qulity in DVDS is superb anything much older than that and youll need an mpeg decoder card....
Well see, the machine doesnt have a dvd player in it. I rip dvds that I own to the hard drive of my main machine and then push it over the network to this machine. I want to hook it up to a tv and watch it that way, so its not truley dvd, its divx. They are all dvds that I own tho and I just want to watch them on the big tv. The machine doesnt even have an agp slot, just pci. So the card has to be pci, fairly decent and have tv out. Any other suggestions?
I hate to keep bumping but I am sure some of you out there have done the same thing for the same purpose and have a recommendation or two on what tv out card to get for this purpose? Pretty please.

OK most basic cards have a TVout, I've seen some Really cheap ($15) AGP cards with a TV output. SInce I really can't help you out because I don't have access to the right hardware, you might want to take a look at newegg (?) or something to hunt for a cheap vid card with a TV out and a PCI interface.
I've owned a Sis 6326 (yeah, yeah) with a TV out but that was restricted to 640 x 480 I think. Saved my ass when my the monitor coppped out in the middle of some heavy music editing, though.
My current GF2MX has an S-video out. The manual says it'll do 800 x 600 on that output. I think it's about 60-70 US. I think most ATI cards have a TV-out as well.

I take it your probaly using Win 98SE or something along those lines. Well I'm just about to put DVD Out to my TV from my PC and I run Win XP Pro and from all the research I have done I would say that if you already have a PCI Vid card in your system to try just a DVD Decoder card. Especially if your only on a 433, otherwise it will be slow and choppy if put through the CPU. The one I am about to try is the REALmagic Hollywood DVD/MPEG Decoder card. Here is a link to a place to get it. http://www.buyrealmagic.com/hollywoodplus.html Take a look, it might be jsut what you need. Best of luck.
