What sort of clock speed are you fella's hitting. Can the you soft mod the core and memory voltages ?

Cheers.

On stock cooler, so far at least review sites max out CCC clocker.

As for soft mod the core and memory voltages.... give it at least til there is decent supply to see anything like that being brought up. I'd say 1-2 months before news on anything like that at least.

CCC sets the core @ 900, but it does that easy. i wish Unwinder would post up the hack, there IS a hack (or a new version) that lets these cards work with RT because the guru review uses riva. :(

I heard from somewhere that they (manufacturer) are able to get it up to 950.

Which sites? I'm seeing really crummy results, at least on http://www.gpureview.com/gpureviews-hd-5870-overclocking-roundup-article-811.html

There was 2 i hit up... there was a list over at XS that I looked at a few sites. They basically maxed them out. Not fully but im sure if they upped the fan speed from default even by a little from my past ATI experiences you can reach quiet a bit higher and still have cooler temps.

From what Ive read most hit 920 -950 then start to show artefacts from voltage starvation rather than cooling.

I have a feeling ATI may have sacrificed overclocking ability for power efficiency. Or the 40nm core might have electromigration problems with extra voltage.

This certainly looks promising.

"This Overclocking and Monitoring Tool from AMD lets you overclock the HD 5870, also you can change the voltages and monitor sensors"

It's out. I got 2 of them. They just arrived!

I'll start playing with them tomorrow.

BlackSphinx , looking forward to your results and hoping for 1 ghz core if asus Bios allows that :)

how could you have 2 of the fastest cards in front of you and wait till tomorrow to install them?!???

thats like megan fox asking you to go to bed with her and you sayin naw ill wait for tomorrow...

We are on a computer forum and i will still say no its not , my logic is simple on one hand you have Megan Fox asking you to go to bed with her on other you just received 2 Asus 5870's cards , choice is rather simple here

Someone over at HF is running 1200/1400 with the Asus bios and MSI overclocking tool.

Or, simpler. My girlfriend having a BAD day at work and needing sleep immediately, meaning me working on comp is absolutely forbidden! Sometimes, you gotta choose your battles.

However, I fell into a nice little problem.

Smart Doctor doesn't seem to like CrossfireX. Looking around it seems it's not the first time it happens. I'll have to find a workaround.

Also, even on an HAF932, the upper card is slightly starved of air, and heats rather quickly. However, no fear, at stock after 3 hours of gameplay (absolutely stable, yay ATI got good drivers early!), the highest heat I got is 73 degrees, and the fan was barely audible. Jamming the fan at 100% will make the heat go away very fast, so I'm not afraid about making this thing 'splode. I started with TF2 (all setttings maxed gave an average of around 160FPS :burn:). I mostly tried to be sure everything was perfectly stable and working fine.

Crysis works fine too.

Anyway, until I get to work, here's a little photo. Man, does it look like this rig means business.

Overclocking is painless in Crossfire, but sadly it seems voltage stops it.

Highest I got it stable was 900MHz core, 1300MHz memory.
920MHz, 1300MHz Memory locked in the middle of the 2nd Test in 3dMark06, but highest temperature was 76 degrees. The fans were barely audible.

Anyway

This is what I got in 3dMark06 at 900MHz

http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z29/MoooveZiiig/900MHz.jpg

3dmark seems to detect my card as 5850... weird. Anyway, it's a pretty decent score, but I expected to break 30k. My i7 920 is running currently at 3.6GHz.

As a comparison, not overclocked, the score was in the low 25ks.

Try as I may, I haven't found anyway to make Smart Doctor work fine in CrossfireX. It just doesn't see my video cards. Not being a master overclocker, I guess I'll wait a bit for a software fix. It seems the AMD GPU clock tool does see the voltage, but can't go over 1.15. It only can go down.

Bummer.

Final word: immense potential, but needs some juice. As soon as I can juice them up, I'll come back. Much better OCers than me are working on single cards setups.

And sorry, I typoed above, limit is 1200/1400. The guy was hitting 1000/1250.

Again, not really better than what GTX295 get.

And, looking around, it seems the same thing happens everywhere... The 5870 rocks in games, but it's not a benchmark monster.

I guess future drivers will fix that.

I would highly recommend flashing your card to the Asus Bios, it not only opens up the OC range but also the card seems to run cooler

This is a screenshot with stock fan at 60%, core voltage at only 1.250v, and OC at 1000/1275 Mhz

NOTE : FLASHING ANY GPU WITH A BIOS IS RISKY SO BE CAREFULL PLEASE !!
