i was moving my loop from one case to another 1, was checking temps etc, as soon as i ran prime, the cpu hit 90C and the computer powered down.

i checked in the computer, and the pump wasnt running, i removed the res top for the pump, and it smells like the motor has burnt out in the pump ?

i was using water, and pt nuke, so nothing different to every one else.

im hoping to return the pump to chilled pc uk for replacement, but i dont know what there warrentie service is like, all i no is im not paying 50 ****ing quid for a new pump.

has any one else had a mcp355 die on them like this? i brought it as i had read it was a reliable item?

Too new for it to die. Was there any chance there was air still inside the pump after you moved the set around? Water pump don't do well if there are air.

Check the warranty on it.

It should be under warranty if you bought it new - the pump shouldn't die so soon.

Definitely too early to die. Mine has been on 24/7 since ...um...April? Maybe earlier. From the MTBF of 50,000 hours, it should last five 5.7 years 24/7 before failure.

Remember, these pumps are designed for more than just water cooling a computer; more important things rely on these. This is way too early for yours to fail.

thanks for all the replies, i was watching it like a hawk when i was filling it, so im sure that no air got sucked in to it.

i have messaged the site i got it from, and i will see what they say, im hoping they will replace it, because i cannot afford to buy another 1

I was also thinking that you ran the pump dry for a bit. Any chance of this? I cant see it burning up when it's full of water...

Running the pump dry would tear up the impeller and it's ceramic bearing, but wouldn't fry the motor, IMO. Sounds like you got a bad pump; sorry to hear it. Hopefully they won't give you any hassle with the RMA.

i would say did you forget the o-ring, but since it was running before, something was wrong with the pump. rma'able.

There has been a few instances where they just leak. Water gets into the electronics. If the palce you bought it from gives you a hassle, go straight to Gabe at Swiftech. He's a upstanding guy. As long as your up front on what happened. If you omit something... well he has seen it all.

thanks for the replys, what you have said does make sence, after i removed the pump from the case, the pad of foam it was standing on was damp. not soaked, but enough for me to notice when i removed it .

I explained to the shop what happened, they and requested i ship them the item to confirm that its broken, and im not just after a free pump.

I posted it to them , and it will arrive with them on monday morning, im hoping that they will deal with it quick and post out a new pump to me that day, so i can have my desktop pc running again asap

i will keep you lot posted

I've only got an MCP350, but mine is going on 2.5 years of running almost 24/7. These little pumps are great. Hopefully you will get this sorted out. Sounds to me like you obviously had a water leak, which could only happen if the top wasn't tightened down right.

good news :D

my replacement pump showed up this morning :D

very good service from chilled pc, they got the dead pump monday afternoon, and i recieved the new one wednesday morning.

abit dissapointed with there communication , there emails were lightining fast before i sent the pump, after i sent the pump, i didnt get a email from them to say they had recieved it or that they were sending out the new one.

the important thing is that my pc is back in action :D
