hahah thats awesome.
although a much cheaper and easier way is to locate the router at a corner of a house, and use a corner reflector to aim your wifi signal to the rest of the house.
Though technically that paint is very cool, I'll take my Cat5E and Gigabit nic for the ultimate in WiFi security, and enjoy a speed bonus. ;)

That is pretty cool. I'll stick to the switch for now though. :)

They do bring up a good point though of using it to block cell phones in places such as movie theaters.

Not as long as Cat5e is UTP
Hehehe, I'm a wireman for at&t, I got it covered. My Cat5e has both Mylar and foil shields with a grounding tap that has a dedicated ground rod I drove in the basement.
I even punch down the tap in my jumpers and jacks on brown, so that jumpers are grounded (I don't need PoE at home).
Not that I'm paranoid, I just had the cable and the parts needed, and it was a fun project.

Great then you can't use your cell phone!?!
I'm sure it will be useful in certain situations though.

You will still get signals through the glass. Just have worse reception. (Unless you get those special screens that you glue to the window to stop RF

I miss a wired ethernet connection. I used to get 30ping on almost all east coast CS source servers. Now, I get mad choke with wifi...
Anyway, why not use lead based paint? I'm sure a lot of people here still live in houses with that. Another good deterrent is sheetrock rather than gypsum drywall.
Why not just wrap your house and head in tin foil? That's what I do... :screwy:
It would be nice in movie theaters though, either that or the theater could actually enforce the rule.

As to the movie theater thing though, what about people who are on call for their job? People just need to follow the request to turn it on vibrate.

They don't have a gun to their head with demands that they watch a movie...
However, those who have their phone ring will have one for other reasons. ;)

Are you serious? lead based paint?

Vibrate. A person that leaves their cellphone on regular ringer just wants attention.
Vibrate is still annoying. I got pretty sick of all small lights shining, kids talking and vibration noises last time I went to the movies. Phones should be off.

+1 And wouldn't that be great? I'd love to be able to go to a movie and not be distracted by some douchebag's ultra bright OLED screen because he just HAS to text Bob and say "M @ the m00vies txt l8r"
If I owned a chain of movie theatres, you'd have to sign a waiver when you bought your ticket that basically says you give the theater staff (we'd have a guy in every theater) permission to confiscate your phone and destroy it.
Infront of you.
Like as the credits are rolling when the lights come up, the guy stands under the screen with a basket of all the cell phones they confiscated during that show, and they just take a hammer to them.
Or Wi Fi paint. Tomatoe tomato
Use the Mythbuster's chicken cannon, and load the sabot with a dozen phones at a time, like a shotgun shell. Shoot 'em at the wall.
That's what I'd like to see.
My phone goes on vibrate in the restaurant and in the bar. I don't go to theaters.
Personal responsibility and consideration is way too rare these days.

Phones ringing do not disturb me. What is annoying is the people TALKING on said cell phone.

Lol. No, I'm not. Just that a lot of old houses everywhere have lead based paint on them still.
They actually still make lead based paint, mainly China, due to lower standards in other countries that import the cheap paint.

Really? When I went to see starwars episode 3, RIGHT at the part where Darth Vader's mask goes on for the first time, just as he goes "Ghhhhhhhshhhhhh- kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
some douchebag's phone right infront of me starts ringing- and not just any ring, one of those really happy chirpy melody rings. Totally blew the whole atmopsphere of Darth Vader's tragedy for me.
The entire theatre erupted in a "WHAT THE F****"
Ok, maybe I'm just not thinking about this the right way... the first thing I thought about though- Why don't we paint a Computer Case with this stuff? I know a lot of people out there have interference from their computers so wouldn't that help? and if you use Wi-Fi on your pc it shouldn't be a problem as most Wi-fi antennae are on the outside of the case?
any thoughts about this?
Well that's what an all steel or aluminum case does for you...as long as your household electrical system is setup to ground correctly (I've seen many that are not, and one that was grounded to the gas line...duh!), the case shouldn't bleed interference.
Well yes steel and aluminum are good as they are... but I'm talking more about those all custom from scratch cases that don't conform to a box... the ones made out of all fiberglass and such...
I've built plenty fiberglass cases over the years, and though I take pains to make sure grounding is above par, I've only tried shielding one. I've still not had any interference.
Can't say if that's luck or talent, but I don't place other devices next to my computer besides it's peripherals.
You can shield fiberglass to some extent by covering your mold with aluminum foil then glassing onto it, letting the aluminum become part of the shell...that's how I did it.
If memory serves, Dell used to have a ground strap to their heat sinks in the old Dimension cases with the plastic sides. Mine did. Maybe that's just as effective.
yea I've never had trouble with anything I've done either but just saying... would be nice just put a coat of that on and then whatever other paint on after.... just something new to try
Wireless security and encryption systems are fraught with problems and insecurity, and other methods to restrict your signal to a small area are cumbersome at best.Right...
Although anyone else thinking it's about time WEP is not offered as an option on (most) consumer routers anymore?
Amusing stuff, regardless.

Where can a person pick-up a can of this special paint? I have been looking all over for it and it seems that nobody has even heard of it .... besttechman

What comes to mind for me is those people who supposedly suffer from exposure to various RF and EM fields.
