hardrive not performing as thought it should help

ok, i have a maxtor 40 g harddrive .Do you know of anything i can do to improve the performance of this thing? It scored kinda low on my sissoft mem test..... you think if i partition it it will respond better?and if so can i partition it without having to reformat.???? Im using win xp proff.

First off, are you using the SiSoft mem tester or drive tester? The mem tester checks the speed of your RAM, not harddrive.

Assuming you did run the drive tester though, it should show you comparisons to compare your results too. For instance, it'll show you the results of a 7200rpm ide drive, a scsi setup, a raid setup, etc etc....

What speed drive do you have? 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

Really there is little you can do to speed it up, unless you are using a board that doesn't autodetect their UDMA settings. Make sure those are detecting right...
