Hello all, im a newbie. I know some stuff but not much. I am having some trouble with my comp. I recently installed a Geforce 3 Ti 200 and ever scince it seems that my comp will randoly lock up and i won't beable to do anything. this is really not fun because ill be enjoying a nice game of starcraft or MOHAA and then it will just poop out on me. And its not just when im playing games either. I have all the newest drivers and everything but nothing i try seems to help. If any one can offer some assistance it would be a great help.

Welcome to the Forums!
I am not really up on video problems per se (not too much of a gamer) but there is one thing I have seen cause a lot of problems- besides overclocking that is!
Did you first Uninstall the old drivers and go to the basic vga? I guess this cleans out all the old drivers and the registry for the new install.
When I get a new card I do that, and reboot and tell the computer NOT to install the drivers for the card when it asks; then I'll shut down and install the new card and drivers. I haven't had any trouble doing it that way so far, Knock on wood!
Good luck, and after you get it straightened out you might just want to hang around- Beginners Guides are HERE (http://www.overclockers.com) , a lot of great info!

Gateway AMD 1.3 select 6 months old 40 gig hard drive, windows ME, 768mb sdram, was a geforce 2mx now a geforec 3 ti 200. Don't know much abou the mobo but i can find out. Ohter than that what other info can i give ya to help you help me, and i will try the total uninstallation of the drivers but i think i have already tried that one, thanx though. So let me know what else i can do. im not an expert on anything but could it have anything to do with a power issue?
Use the Detonator Destroyer to kill all previous Detonator Drivers and get the 23.11 from nVidia's site (They seem to be the best at the moment).
Then update everything etc.
It should be working fine.

Whats the error message say?
that not seems to be about your video card. you said the computer will lockup even when not running the games. is that correct?
have you tried to monitor your temps? also, what kind of power supply do u have?
I went through this same thing with my KT7A-Raid after installing a GF2-Ultra maybe a year ago. Constant lockups no matter what you were doing and it didnt matter if you were overclocked either. I was running W2K and the problem turned out to be ACPI. I flashed the bios to a version that lets me dissable ACPI and that was it problem solved. My guess is that NVidia's drivers were not %100 ACPI complient with all hardware combinations. Check and see if a bunch of devices are all sharing the same IRQ.

That sounds great but i have no clue how to do it. And the power supplie apears to be a newtonpower ltd. 250 w MAX it says.i also have a cyclone blower under my graphics card if that has any relevance to anything. if this gets to much more complicated could i just go and return the card for a different one?once again thanx for you time.
oh and next time i get the error ill let ya know cause it only seems to give me the error when im in a game. otherwise it just locks up or the screen goes blank.

In your bios does it allow you to disable power management and/or plug n play os... might try disabling those.:eh?:

I think i have made a discovery last night when i was playing Etherlords the same thing happened as ushuall. This time though after hitting any botton to continue Etherlords gave me a message that i hadn't seen before.
First there was the blue screen of death. with the error of File name:vmmcod 0000cc95 error: oe: 0028:c000dc95
(0x887601ab)
Access to this surface is being refused because the surface is already locked by another thread.
then it gave me this error message.
Direct Draw does not have enough memory to perform operation.
All this leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the card itself.Wada you guys think. Does that sound like a possability. That maybe the memory on the card or the card itself got static shock when i installed it or something to that extent. Let me know what you think
