We could really use an updated sticky to replace the 'LCD terms, what to look for:' thread, its a bit outdated.

Any updates on progress? Maybe someone willing to update that sticky and make an articles out of it?

Bump for updates.
Also added the white stars and got you in the org chart - not sure how I missed that.

Refer to some of the sticky's here for help - you might find better results if you reach out to people in the forum directly.

Stepping it up. Several regulars in my section have been contacted.

Have contacted several knowledgeable users, awaiting reply from some.
One user had written for the front page previously and felt they had received no recognition or credit and were adamant about not being interested in writing again..

If someone's bitter, I'm not interesting in influencing them. However, the frontpage is managed much differently now than it was prior to mid September. Regardless tho, if that makes no difference to them I'm not interested in swaying anyone holding a grudge. That feedback is good tho - it's important to make sure the authors are happy and that sort of feeling is not pervasive amongst our writers.
Down the road, we have a badge system coming, as well as hardware raffles to reward people who are contributing. As always, anything written will be attributed to the author so they get credit for what is written.

I hear you on that I.M.O.G. and the new systems down the road sound really slick. I'm still waiting to hear from a few other members and keeping an eye out for other knowledgeable members.

Do you have any ideas for other ways you'd like to be involved? If this section just isn't producing any content, we can try to put you to use in a different role if you'd prefer that.

11-14-09, 08:12 PM
I've been thinking about it a lot and I am confident that I have the knowledge and prose to re-write the LCDs sticky. I could write guides on several other topics in that section as well. I need to decide if I am willing to commit the time, however.
What other roles do you have available?
I.M.O.G.
11-16-09, 12:58 AM
Well, there are the other sections listed in the org chart sticky in the news subforum. Those are open. We have 2 proof readers, but a 3rd wouldn't hurt.
Also, we could use people assisting other content editors - it'd be nice if each content editor had some people to help them out in finding threads which would make for nice article topics.
Then, I'm trying to forge alliances with XS and AOAForums. We'll need someone to work with those forums, if things move forward. It'd be a an XS content editor role so to speak, where you work with any of their members you can find who want to write an article. Depending on how those relationships develop, requirements for that role could adjust with time.
Any of these if they sound better to you, or anything else you can think of or suggest I am open to considering.

11-16-09, 10:27 PM
I could be a proofreader. However an ambassador to XS sounds very interesting. Would you let me know if anything comes of it? For now I'll keep the current post in the D&I section.
I.M.O.G.
11-21-09, 10:21 AM
I put out feelers with AOA forums as well as XS. It didn't work out yet, but there is potential possibly in the future with XS. Currently however, the answer was no. If it works out down the road, we can revisit that.
Anything else going on with displays? Maybe anyone who wants to write something up about their top 3 display picks and why?

The Displays&Imaging section doesn't seem very popular, I have gotten nothing out of the users I've contacted, no one seems to think its worth their time, unfortunately. I'll update the thread in that section with a few more ideas/ suggestions, but to be honest I'm not very hopeful!
Edit: Updated D&I section thread.

We need to look more at how we can put you to better use. A lot going on right now, and I'll try to get to this ASAP. Some new areas we could use you in may become apparent once the Wordpress workflow starts picking up.

I pm'ed him as well, didn't realize you two already spoke. I saw his guide yesterday and thought it would be awesome to feature on the frontpage!
:)
The article template is in the wordpress backend. You should be able to login and see it. Post up here if you have any issues and we'll get it sorted out.
Thanks!

^What he said... Just click "add new" to see the article guidelines. You can either enter the article yourself, or get the author's email address and forward it to me, and I'll create the author account so he can enter it directly. Once he's done, he lets you know, you look it over, then you submit it for final review. This is also mentioned in the article template! :)

I'm not sure how to access Wordpress. I don't mind entering and formatting aznkc730 's guide myself, but I think I need an account created..
I created your username and emailed you your password. Make sure you change it!
;)
Let me know if you have any issues. To access wordpres: www.overclockers.com/wp-admin. As IMOG said, all the instructions are in there. Also this might help, it's a guide to uploading images in wordpress: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=629930

I have this in wordpress, saved as a draft. I've done spelling, grammar and a bit of formatting. As a content editor, how liberal should I be with aznkc730's content? Theres some things I would would clarify and re-write if it was something I was publishing. How professional should the writing be? Should I go ahead and make further changes?
I.M.O.G.
02-22-10, 06:31 PM
We generally attempt to preserve the writers voice while ensuring its more formal than a forum post, and ensuring any edits made do not actually change what the author is saying. If something may be inaccurate or needs verification, we provide feedback to the author/CE about that so they can make whatever changes necessary.

Hey Night, are you still looking for someone to write up a DSLR guide? It'll take me a little while to compile one fully, but I'm an avid digital photographer and much like PCs I feel the need to research the heck out of them so I know a lot about it. I'm a Nikon guy but I can certainly write something unbiased. Also I just picked up a Monoprice pen tablet, I'd imagine this section would be the closest fit for a review of that if everyone would like to see that.
nightelph
03-08-10, 11:32 PM
That would be UBER. I'm also a Nikon guy. I've learned a lot from www.kenrockwell.com. If you'd like to put some ideas together I'd love to collaborate.

I'd definitely like to see it. Would love to get a new camera eventually but I'm kinda lost in the forest when looking at them. Low light performance and time between shots (with and without flash) are my biggest concerns.

Hey Big Mike; any updates?
Not really, I took a contract job that is 50-60 hours a week right after I got the tablet and haven't had time for much of anything. The job only runs until June, if I don't find a full time job between now and then I may have plenty of time to work on stuff then, but I'll try and work on some stuff in the meantime, it's an adjustment going from no work to 60 hours a week, lol.

Thx for the update - no one is interested in 3D stuff?
nightelph
05-27-10, 11:43 AM
Hrm, I kinda doubt it. Its not really a mature or mainstream technology yet, although I believe thats where things are headed. Unless someone wanted to write a technical paper on the technology, I don't think we'll see much interest in current tech and market. I'll keep an eye out though and be sure to contact anyone who shows interest.

Good qualifier, we'll keep that in mind. :) Displays are not an area where we've touched upon yet - we've had good progress with the contacts we have approached thusfar however.

Sorry for going so long without updates. Married, honeymoon, vacation, a funeral.. life gets in the way!
No updates to report, and honestly the displays section could prolly be moved to 'inactive'. I don't mind being the contact but the section doesn't garner a lot of interest.
