I just recently built a new rig (see signature); and I been having issues with my 295 gtx.

I get a lot of blue screens, and errors when I play WoW (wow errors 132 mostly and some 134)... I found out wow isnt a multi gpu friendly game after some research. The 132 wow errors are hardware errors, and everything points to my graphics card! Any blue screen is always a nv4_disp.dll blue screen, which means graphics card or drivers. I tryed to run on single-gpu mode and it only helps keep the blue screens away and they still happen rarely, but wow error's still happen a lot. It use to be a wow error into a blue screen, now its just a wow error.

This is very frustrating and stressfull, I dont know what to do.
I still have time to RMA and get a refund for this card. I don't know if I should do that though.

This is where I want to know your opinions on my situation.
I currently have win xp pro 32bit, and will get win 7 pro 64bit after it is released.
1.) I don't know if it may be my OS, will windows 7 64bit fix my issues?

2.) My time frame for RMA will end before win7 is released (will call tomorrow to confirm how neweggs returns work since they at first sent me the wrong card, then i got the 295 this last tuesday which i think was the 30th). I was thinking of returning the card for a refund and maybe buy a 285gtx or the new radeon hd 5870.

3.) If I wanna pick up a new card, which should I go for? I never had a radeon card and the new 5870 has been out for maybe 2 weeks max, is it worth picking it up? Otherwise I'll go with the 285 since I heard many good reviews on it.

4.) Will the radeon hd 5870 work with my mobo? is there any campatibility issues with any other parts?

Just please keep in mind that all I play is WoW at the moment and might play Aion soon. The only other stuff I do on my rig is video editing and either of those 2 other cards will be good enough for that anyways. I rather get a single gpu card since I never used a multi gpu card and after this 295 and its issue's, i plan to stay away from it.

EDIT (new): So I went ahead and got an RMA for my 295 and ordered a 5870... now to wait and see what happens next week when I get the new card.

First of all... What is the point running 64 bit if everything you will run it will be at 32? Most people make that mistake. Yeah it will count all of your memory but you also need to have EVERY SOFTWARE AND GAMES avaiable for 64 bits if you really want to feel the difference, otherwise it is not worth it.

You could check your temps while playing, meaby that is the problem. You might also try to search for WoW players if they have the same issue.

I am not familiar with WoW but if you run everything else without errors, i don't think they will RMA it heh, try another games and software that uses video power.

IMO 5870 is pointless since a 280 can run everything at 60 fps ( with a good CPU too ) and i would wait to see reviews before you buy it. I am not counting games like Crysis wich has a stupid failure engine.

Well I already got it RMAed after figured out it was giving my brother issues when i tested it in his computer. I need to package it up and send it out, but ill do that this monday or tuesday; hopefully the 5870 comes in on either of those days.

Im going 64 cause of the new system I built. I specifically built this system because of the games that will be comming out in the future. I don't think Ill change any major parts for the next 2 years or so after I get this card in.

Also, why get a 285 when the 5870 is 20-30 more bucks and out preforms it in every way possible.

Buying a 5870 for WOW is a little extreme;) What resolution do you game at?

At the moment, im stuck playing at a ****ty res of 1440x900 (19inch wide screen). My old 24in monitor died on me so I was using this old one. But I do plan to get a new 24+ inch monitor after I pick up windows 7.

I also have been thinking of doing a 3x 24inch setup with eyefinity since I have been considering picking up a few of these popular FPS games. My old computer couldnt handle stuff like it so I always just didnt buy any, but this one...

Also remember, I did build this computer to be prepared for future games like SWTOR, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, etc etc. Once I get win7 I WILL buy aion (i know its not that graphic intense but still). I also want this new computer to last me at least 2 years without upgrades within the tower itself.

WoW is great and all, but I doubt I'll continue playing it since I been playing less and less each month for the last year. Next step is literally to quit my 4 days a week raiding cause thats ALL i even bother to logg on for anymore.

I went throught 7 different drivers. Most of the recommend official drivers since 18*.** thru current and some beta ones.

off the top of my head, for official drivers:
191.07
190.6*
190.38
185.**
186.**
182.**

I tryed a few beta drivers too and old modified drivers and got no results.

So bad card.

You'll like the new card.

I second the driver issue motion, not that it couldn't be hardware, but drivers just seem more likely.

However, now you won't have to deal with SLI/crossfire, and will use less power too!
